Indian Institute of Technology is counted among the best educational institutions in the world. To get in it, IIT-JEE is conducted. Every year over 2,00,000 aspirants prepare for IIT-JEE but only 3,500 are selected. Here are some tips about IIT-JEE -

------------------------------------------------------------

Q- What is required to get into IITs?

A- Determination, Intelligence, Hard Work & Structured Planning are the essential ingredients to success. Right guidance can also play a vital role.

------------------------------------------------------------

Q- What is the right time to start preparing for IIT-JEE?

A- The best thing is to start as early as possible, right from the 9'th standard if possible. However, one must start just after clearing class X'th if not started earlier. In such a scenario the student gets adequate time of 2 years to prepare for the IIT-JEE. This ensure that his/her preparation for the IIT-JEE is complete before the pressure of Board examinations begins to tell.

------------------------------------------------------------

Q- How does one cope up with the school syllabus and preparation for the IIT-JEE?

A- The syllabi of the IIT-JEE is nearly the same as that of CBSE Board exams. The only difference lies in the approach. In IIT-JEE, stress is laid on a deep understanding of concepts and therefore a student is required to solve problems based on thorough understanding of the subject, while in the CBSE Board exams, stress is given on reproducing the facts. The best method of managing both is to be regular in classes and ensuring proper time management.

Q- Which BOOKS are best ?

A- MATHS-

-S.L.Loney for trigonometry, coordinate geometry and vectors (complete)

-I.A.Maron for calculus (selected portions)

-G.N.Berman for calculus (selected portions)

-M.L.Khanna's IIT guide is quite good for practice

-Tata McGraw Hill (if time permits then and then only)

CHEMISTRY-

Physical chemistry:-

-R.C.Mukerjee (try to almost complete the book)

-P.Bahadur

-IIT guide by O.P.Agarwal

Organic chemistry:-

-Morrison Boyd (selectively study...very nice book!)

-Solutions to Morrison Boyd (IIT profs. make lots of problem from this book!!!)

-IIT guide by O.P.Agarwal (problems only, don't go in for theory)

Inorganic chemistry:-

-IIT guide by O.P.Agarwal is sufficient.

PHYSICS-

Mechanics:-

1) Resnick Halliday Part 1(this book is superb provided you have somebody to explain it for you..)

2) H.C.Verma Part 1(very nice book..lots of conceptual problems ..but no complicated problems)

3) IIT guide by S.L.Gupta (one should try to solve the unsolved questions of this book)

4) I.E.Irodov (most of the problems are quite good.Leave heavy dose mathematical problems)

Electricity and Magnetism:-

1)Resnick Halliday Part 2 (this is very nice book provided

you have somebody to explain the text for you)

2)H.C.Verma Part 2 ( problems are conceptual , but not sufficient)

3)I.E.Irodov (only those problems that are in your course)

Modern Physics:-

Q- How to chose a proper coaching centre ?

A- 1)See how old the institute is.

2)How many students of the coaching institute got into IIT last year.(Ideally should be greater than 40).

3)Talk to 3 or 4 students(should be studious)who are already studying in that institute.

4)See the experience of the faculty

5)See the level of problems in the assignments and whether the study material is regularly updated or not.

6)By what do they plan to finish the syllabus

7)Finally,see if your parents can pay the fees(generally very huge).

In my personal opinion, Brilliant Tutorials( http://www.brilliant-tutorials.com) is best for correspondence course, Anugraham classes( http://www.anugraham.com) provide unique lecture CDs and for classroom contact program there are many others like FIITJEE, BANSAL, CAREERPOINT etc etc.

------------------------------------------------------------

If you are preparing for JEE, then you should be serious. You should leave almost all the recreation activities for the 2 yrs (11th and 12th). And, if you have a strong determination to get through then you will definitely get success. ALL THE BEST .
