My opinion on SUBWAY is this:
It is an average restaurant, with average quality food and ambiance. They excel only in their shrewd advertising practices and in their abundant franchise placements.
Basically, the food is good enough, and as far as service and ambiance, well… they have their good days and their bad days like anyone else.
MARKETING
Atleast here in America, there is a SUBWAY on every corner. That’s a good thing. Convenience is a big plus for any business.
The commercials are clever. (sort of). There is a guy named Jared who has lost 100 or so pounds eating just SUBWAY. Now the former fatso is famous. I guess he deserves it for losing all that weight.
VARIETY
One good thing about SUBWAY is that you have a lot of choices.
You can get “Foot long” subs, 6” subs, “deli style” or salads. You can choose from many different combinations of meat, cheese, types of bread, garnishings or you can eat vegetarian.
THE FOOD
The bread comes in white, wheat and various specialty breads like Italian, onion crusted, etc. The “Deli-style” bread is white only.
The meat varies from cold cuts: Bologna, Salami, Turkey, Ham, roast beef and pepperoni to salad mixes like Tuna and Seafood to Chicken breast (diced or not).
As far as choices go, you can pretty much have it any way you want at SUBWAY.
THE COMPETITION
What makes SUBWAY not so special is that they aren’t the only sub sandwich around. In Florida we have MIAMI SUBS, QUIZNO’s, SCHLOTSKY’S and tons of privately owned shoppes.
THE AMBIANCE
The many different stores come in many different sizes. The décor is all Trademark similar and the enjoyment factor really depends on the people behind the counter.
THE SANDWICH ARTISTES
Come to think of it, I’ve never really been impressed by any of the personalities behind the SUBWAY counter. One of the SUBWAY’s I used to frequent had a manager who when he spoke to me, every other word was “Honey” and while it’s a sweet term of endearment, there comes a point when “enough is enough”.
Another one I went to had a bunch of adolescents working (if you want to call it that) behind the counter and I found it difficult to give them my order in between all their talking and laughing and just being typical teenagers.
A few times I met up with unsociable mean-looking people.
But I can recall some pleasant employees. I don’t remember where but I do have a vague recollection of them.
Or maybe I dreamed it.
