Real War against TERROR!!!. Review on Stupid White Men - Michael Moore

Were you sleeping? Bet you were. Well its time to wake up and smell the coffee. You thought everything was all right with the world, right? WRONG!! There couldn't be more wrong and once this review is done, you will see why.

''Stupid White Men'':

Seems an incongruous enough title. Maybe raise a few eyebrows and a quiet chuckle. But nothing to get all excited about. But the way Michael Moore sees it, White Men ARE stupid, literally. Welcome to his world where nothing is sacred. As Mark Twain once said ''Sacred cows make the best hamburgers'', and this book would feed an army, to be sure. What is this book about? Well, to say it in one word - TRUTH. The book aims to open our eyes to the shenanigans played in the names of politics and business, talks about the extent of environmental pollution, discusses the sorry state of black rights and education in America, and even has an entire chapter devoted to the increasing redundancy of men. Quite, quite brilliant. Written with a shoot-from-the-hip, wild west, kind of style, Michael manages to shock with humour, which keeps you flipping the pages one after the other. The introduction discusses how the publishers refused to publish this book after 9/11, but were forced into doing so, by increasing public pressure. Thank god for small mercies.;-)

Now lets talk about some meat from the book:

Right in the beginning of the book, there is this quote slam bang in the centre of the page: ''Its amazing I won. I was running against peace, prosperity and incumbency''. Guess who uttered these beautiful lines. Go on throw a wild one. Lost, ok, its our very own Dubyaman, George W. Bush on June 14, 2001, while he was speaking to Swedish Prime Minister Goran Perrson, unaware that a live TV camera was still rolling. Yes my dear friends, please welcome the Laloo Prasad Yadav of the world!! The great Dubyaman is the UNELECTED president of the global supercop, the U S of A. The first chapter, aptly titled ''A Very American Coup'' shares in great detail how dear brother Jeb Bush (the then governor of Florida), Katherine Harris ( Dubyaman's campaign cochairwoman and the Florida Secretary of State in charge of elections), John Ellis (the man in charge of Fox's election coverage and Dubyaman's cousin), conniving lawyers with conflicts of interest and the Supreme Court (with a CJ set to retire soon and one of senior Bush' buddies), artfully and shamelessly engineered the whole bloody fiasco euphemestically called an election. Talk about the holier-than-thou, rid this world of evil, frigging mass murderers. Aargh!! Makes me wanna puke. Now you know why Michael Moore came on stage at the Oscars and called Dubyaman ''the fictitious president''. In fact he devotes 3 entire pages just listing out the number of broken election promises and downright unethical/dangerous decisions (48 in all, I counted) Dubya has given the go ahead to in the first few months of his office. Now I'm not saying that politicians anywhere else are any better. But hey, no one else seems to wanna rule the world!!

There is an amazing chapter called ''Kill Whitey'', where he states the real damage ''Whites'' and ''White'' communities have inflicted on this world. The facts are mind boggling. He talks about the disguised Slavery still present in many parts of America and has quite a few hard facts to prove the case. Again when we look at the major catastrophes (man-made), they all have a ''White'' hand behind them. The holocaust, the genocide of native americans, the atom bomb, slavery, the media networks etc etc. Its an extremely hard hitting chapter and it really brings to mind the kind of disparateness present in American society today. We can apply the same to any country actually. The caste system, the religious prejudices, the rich - poor divide etc etc. All these divides are so huge today that the entire society is sitting upon a volatile tinderbox and god save us when the fuse goes off!!!

Another eye-opener is the chapter on environmental pollution called ''Nice Planet, Nobody Home''. It talks about Pepsi disposing toxic waste and unfit bottles in India, global warming and the frenzied media cover up. It talks about Mad Cow disease and how its an entirely man made disease. In a separate chapter Michael discusses the role of the USA in environmental pollution (among other things). The chapter titled ''We're Number One'', talks about how the US is the number ONE nation in millionaires, billionaires, military spending, firearm deaths, per capita energy use, CO2 emissions, hazardous waste production, lowest voter turnout, recorded rapes, injuries and deaths due to road accidents, no of international human rights treaties NOT signed, among countries in the UN who have NOT signed the UN convention on the Rights of the Child etc etc etc.. The list is exhaustive, pathetic, and disgusting. Again I repeat, many countries are almost as bad. Maybe worse in some ways. But there is no country to match the US in public holier-than-thou posturing.

The last chapter I want to highlight is the one called ''The End of Men'', where Michael discusses the redundancy of the idiotic sex. Heh heh, its very true, what with the age of artificial insemination, the one necessary function we poor chappies provided has also been done away with. Leave the world to be run by women I say. We men have had our chance and see where we are today. Let the stronger sex run the show. By the way, he has medical statistics to prove that women are the stronger sex. Read it to believe it. This is a brilliant chapter that should be highlighted because despite all the noise made about women's equality the world is far far behind in achieving it. Again the chapter has the stats to back this claim.

There are many more chapters and I will leave it to the reader to enjoy this eye-opener of a book. Its amazing that inspite of everything this book managed to see the light of day. As always, no nation is all good nor all bad. I doubt that this book would have been released anywhere else and I salute the people who made it possible.

Please do pick up this book. Beg, borrow or steal, but read this book. Read it to open your eyes and appreciate the fact that all that you see/hear/read in the media is not even close to the truth. Read it so that you can look around you and wonder, ''is this the world I wanna live in''. Hopefully it will affect you as it has me. If this causes even one person to question the blindness we seem to be living in, this book would have done its job.

''Do we want to live life on our terms or as puppets of some faceless monsters who play with entire nations and their people as they please''.
