Karan johar tells making movies is his passion it's quite unbeleivable to recall that it's the same man who gave us kuch kuch hota hai, kabhie khushi kabhi gam etc now-a-days he is making movies about shallow stories, artificial characters, excessive glosshis films dostana, student of the year are enough evidence of this.
What kind of school is this...no sign of books, teachers, students carry designer bags, walk in heels, drive ferrari, girls in minis, boys rip off shirts at the drop of a hat.....no uniforms... This is quite far-fetched, stylised grabage out-of-the-world and never close to audience's lives...do they care at all for indian audience...
Story is flawed...it is confusing whether this is a story of the student-of-the-year as the title suggest, or a story of friends or a triangular love story...plethora of confusing un-related scenes...it is not known what for the students have met/united after 10 years...just to know who ditched who on prom
night...they were speaking of some secret to be revealed.....turned out to be a damp squib.....you will be frustrated to see the climax...no reasons given..no explanation whatever...it could turn out a beautiful story of friendship...all that is wasted in a clumsy climax...most pathetic
Student of the year trophy is decided by da-vinci-code type treasure hunt, athletics, but no academics...is it a sports academy...then why call it student of the year...call it sportsman of the year...It's a time-pass movie munching your pop-corns...there is a lot more desired when it comes to the characterisation .....song and dance galore without any reasons...but point is is this one expects from a movie...attractive boys and girls...six packs...but lacks good plot....you have to tolerate the the ultimate stupidity of the movie
Gay shades are everywhere in the film...It's high time karan avoids gay comedy in all his recent films...come on give it a break now...
Work of camera is nice , Vishal-Shekhar's music are enjoyable, foot-tapping & quite peppy and high-points of the film.Pace of the film is good
About the performances...definitely varun dhawan is the find of the film..he emotes excellent....alia does well as a first-timer...but siddharth malhotra is stiff...and thanks' to karan...due to the flawed characterisation....we end up sympathising with varun dhawan's character though varun was the guy having grey shades of character...the movie has been in the news because of the debutantes...three cheers for them, they are positives of film....
