THE STREET LAWYER--BY JOHN GRISHAM
Whenever I get my hands on any book I just go on reading it forgetting all my food n sleep. N this book has totally left me spell bound..this is the first one of the john grisham series n so impressed I'm by the author's style of writing that I went n joined a local library to just read all of his books in one go..yeh I am addicted..
More than just being a book serving as a means of an entertainment of say some 5-6 hours..this book was a eye opener. The basic plot revolves around Micheal Brock(Mike) n how his life totally changed after one violent incident. It was kinda his rebirth. The realisation of the sufferings of the less destined people leads him to take a U turn in his life so much so that he even divorces his wife n leaves behind the firm which iz a million bucks earning machine.
He is moved by the apathy n the wrong done to a person called Mister...an otherwise identityless person in the huge city of WA DC. Then there is a pitiful family of a young mother n four little kids who lose there life due to an unlegal eviction. These people didnt need anyone's sympathy. All they needed was some means of earning self respect and making the ends meet. The contrast between the polished life in Georgetown apartment n the street is well brought out.
The sketch of a street lawyer working in trenches to clean the dirt , his unforsaken commitment and his capability to win justice for the poor n homeless iz painted vividly n honestly in form of Mordecai Green (manager of 14th Street Legal Clinic where Mike worked) and Mike. The carefree but determined Abraham...shrewd Sofia....addicted Ruby...pitiful Lontae Burton ...Wronged Mister.....deceiving Braden Chance....his good at heart accomplice Hector Palma....commanding Arthur and unconcerned Claire do make an impression on our minds....
Above all the story iz narrated with ease n yet iz spell-bounding and fast-moving.It was an eyeopener in the sense that I got to understand about the other sect of society n felt for them..It has inspired me to help homeless people in every little way I can by volunteering...why just people even stray animals deserve an existence! so next time u see a wanderer dnt shoo him away!
