Story:

I used to hate Philosophy, thinking its all abstract and not relevant to the modern live that we live today. I used to think Philosophy is only for the poetic, creative people for them to use in their poems or and for those literature proffs who wants to enrich their dialogue in classes.  This book by Will Durant changed it all.

The most interesting about this book, is that its NOT about philosophy! So we can all relax. Its a story. A very simply story. Of how, over the centuries, great people like Aristotle influenced the way people lived and worked and governed and learnt. It documents the actions and preaching of some great thinkers of past in a chronological order, and describes how each of them influenced his.her disciples.the ruling-kings of those era, and consequently, influence the thoughts of millions of people living at that time. Some of those very teachings have become what we call common-sense now.

Its amazing when you read through the book and realize that some of the statements made by these scholars so long back, still hold true in the modern era where we live. And not just hold true, but if they are followed, there can be rich rewards for us.

In conclusion, I would like to strongly recommend this book - as a first step on your philosophical journey. This is one book which forced me to think about life! And how!
