My family decided to go somewhere out of the crowd for a couple of days, and since Yercaud was near Bangalore decided the same.
Did a booking through makemytrip for Sterling Resorts in Yercaud. Booking confirmed as classic room. So far so good.
Reached Yercaud after a nice drive, around 5PM. Finding the resort was a pain, as it was much away from Yercaud central lake, have to go through narrow roads leading to bus stand and some congested local shopping area. Twice had to reverse and come back the entire roads, as it was blocked by lorries for unloading...To my surprise I found much more resorts and hotels near the lake for almost similar price range.
Somehow reached the resort after impatient waits on the road for the lorry to clear. Went to the front desk and gave the printout from makemytrip. The front office guy looks at me very irritated - asks a question. Are you a member here? I said no, just got the reservation through makemytrip - and showed the dates, the amount paid and the additional bed details for my elder child from the reservation details given by makemytrip. He doesnot bother - next question .
Do you have a holiday voucher from Sterling? I again said no. What I have was the printout. He makes a few phone calls irritated some where...and finally says Ok, I'll give you a guest room. WHAT - I have paid was my reaction, why is it not already reservered? I insisted on seeing the reservation sheet, finally saw it. Everything was there - but he would not simply accept that. I was reminded of the Moments of truth concept I learned sometime :)
He gives me a room. I went with the boy to the room...got to climb roughly 30 one feet steps up and down to this room. Room - my goodness was very damp, and smells awful. Views outside through the windows was good though. Since I did not want my family to be strained on a holiday by these stair business asked for another room, which was given after some irritated discussions. Not much different either. Ok I got the rooms, I asked the boy to put the additional bed and went to call my family from the car - A total waste of 1.5 hours with a confirmed booking.
We unwound ourselves for a few hours and went to the restaurant. Highly priced for the location, but still ordered a few items. Nothing worth mentioning, you are hungry you have to eat, nothing else. Returned from the restaurant expecting the additional bed to be set up in the room, but no. made a few calls, waitedhalf an hour, nothing. Irritated I go again to the front desk. Saw another person this time. made the same explanations - finally he DECIDED to give me an additional bed, but I have to pay. That was enough for me, I decided to quit and look for another accomodation. On a final try I just showed once more the printout with the additional bed mentioned. Unconvinced, he finally lets me have it. Time 10.30PM...What a sheer waste of an evening, that too on a aholiday, that too on a so called TIME SHARE Resort.
Stayed there for the next 1 day and night. Did not try the restaurant - even if I wanted it was not open. Closed for Pest COntrol !! There is a TT table, carrom board, reding materials in a very small reading room. Nothing much to boast - every TDH has it these days.
Tried food at Shevaroys - Normal. Tried food at Lake Forest Resort - belonging to Club Mahindra, Biriyanis were good, and hence went again for dinner.
Finally called it quits and checked out, a good two days wasted at a pathetic resort.
Yercaud though was a calm place, lots of greenery and too less places to visit. You simply while away your time, relaxed walking around, driving around, etc...
