I decided to apply to SBI for my home loan because I have read pretty negative reviews about the private banks, especially ICICI from mouthshut as well as my other friends.
Advantages of SBI:
Once sanctioned its very reliable and hassle free
The floating rate interest is reasonable and is corrected wrt to current interest rate,
if the current lending rates goes down, so does our Home loan rates.
Good online banking facilities
MAX gain is an excellent scheme which saves lots of money in longterm
No penalty for early closure of loan
Cons:
- It takes a bit of follow up to get the loan sanctioned
it took me 2 months with constant visits to the branch to get it sanctioned
Overall Opinion:
Its a good bank to bank with and I would highly recommend SBI for Home loans. I am a satisfied customer.
For a decision like Home loan, which is going to last 10-15 years, its worth the time and extra effort one spends to follow up and get the loan sanctioned with SBI and relax for the whole tenure. Rather than get a fast loan from a private bank like ICICI and spend the next 15 years worrying about it...
