State Bank of India does not need any introduction to us. I opened one savings account in SBI keeping their visible presence across India in mind, while I was in college. It was an awful effort to open that account since I did not have PAN back then. They diminished my wish by informing that without PAN its impossible to open an account. Therefore, I made my PAN card. It took a month or more, I did not remember now, to apply again with new form. This time, from my personal experience, I found the employees in my home branch is uncooperative. Same thing happened again in case of my mother's account opening.
A year or two later, after changing my mobile number, I went bank to register my new mobile number as I wanted to receive SMS of my account transactions. They advised me to submit an application for that. I did what they said, but after that also they did not activate the service, moreover they keep cutting quarterly charges for SMS service for next 2yrs. Within that time I intimate the same problem to them for 2 times. Next, after submitting application and acknowledge their received copy that I kept with me, they activated the service, at last!
But still now, I get SMS for only cash withdrawal from ATM(and not for cash deposits).
And, these SBI employees! If one asks them for any information, formality or process, they wont give you much time to let you understand their norms &the procedure. They acts like they don't care how much you understood or what you think. They does their job bending their head, do not look at you and keep telling like they mugged it up. They do not have the urge to serve customers. It should not like getting a secured Govt. job decrease service quality. Every employee have to be attentive and polite to customer, regardless of Govt. or private bank.
Keep aside long queue, waiting time & impatience co-customers, I cannot understand how a bank of this much reputation and annual turnover can take their customers for so granted! Instead, they should behave well and serve their customers their best. Top of the all, this bank is No.1 among PSU Banks in India.
Recently, SBI opened 2 new e-corners near our location which are life-saver. You may submit & withdraw cash, print passbook, get coins against notes, transfer online, even open account from here. This is a very good take. It saves time & effort. It offers 24x7 banking.
My view: Instead of low category service & uncooperative employees, I recommend SBI for their pan India presence(even in the awkward areas), PSU security norms, strong share hold, market presence, low & steady EMI rates against loans, steady interest rate etc.
