I happen to open an account with State bank of India as a salary account. First I thought, kaha phus raha hoon. Koi private bank nahi hai kya salary account ke liye, but when I started banking with them, I was very positively surprised and it only keep getting better.
Sure one has to visit branches for some things which can be done on phone in case on private banks but it is worth the effort definitely after weighing the benefits. Let me list down a few:
1) More then 10000 ATMs, highest amongst any bank
2) Even in the remotest area, one thing you will be able to find is a SBI Branch or ATM.
3) There online banking is very user friendly compared to other sites.
4) If one has an account with them, they give very good offers on loans and also reduce rates for existing customers when interest rates come down, compared to private bank who reduce rates only and only for new customers and let the old customers suffer. This has really benefitted me.
5) There MaxGain Home Loan offer is by far the best home loan plan available. In this the account works like a Over Draft account and they give u a debit card and cheque book for this also. So can shift all your savings account money in to this account and save huge money on interest and spend like a normal account.
6) When I took a home loan from them, they were absolutely transparent compared to the home loan taken by my Father from ICICI Bank some years back. Nothing was charged extra then was told to me in the first meeting itself. I appreciate that alot.
