Manhattan is a credit card (CC) promoted by Standard Chartered Bank (SC). I got this card about 2 months ago after relentless calls by their telesales department.
Right from the stage of application process, you come to know how shabbily SC treats its customers.
The person collecting the address proofs etc did not know what documents are to be collected. He instead asked me what the telephone executive had told me. The card arrived within 10 days of application.
The looks of this card are great and it does look like an international product. However, the benefits stop there only!
My card has a lifetime 5% cash back for all purchases at superstores. Great, isn't it? Not really! Read the fine print:
5% cash back is subject to a maximum of Rs 250 per month! This was not told to me at all before the application
What's more irritating is that SC defines the list of shops it included under the definition 'superstores' and this list is NOTavailable anywhere. So you just walk into any mall and pray that it falls under their list. I have so far shopped at Pantaloons, Big Bazaar, Belmonte and Hyper City mall and have not got any cash back. I wonder what their definition of 'supermarket' is!
Also the reward program is really bad. Any item worth considering about is for points 10000 and above.
It's free for life, but so are many other cards these days in India. Really not worth it!
