I thought I will share my conversation with standard harassing bank. It happened many times, this one three days back which lasted 20 minutes of course on my phone. (06 September 2007)


Me: I got ur statement by e-mail today which loaded with 591 rupees penalty and interest. How come these penalty and charges. I am shocked.


CC (customer care): Sir your due date was 5th august, u skipped the payment, so these charges applicable as per rules.


Me: But I haven't recd any statement from your side. The first purchase was made in 29july 2007, how would I know that 5 august due date?


CC: We have informed you over phone about due date when u called us first on 8 august 2007.


Me: You never told me, its a lie. Nevertheless last time you told me that I had called u on 8 august 2007 for internet banking password.


CC: Sir physical copy of the statement is also posted you in your billing address.


Me: I haven't received and you haven't sent either. Please give me the reference of courier docket or any POD ( proof of delivery). My address is corporate address, there is a courier management systems works from company side, nothing will be missed.


CC: We do not have any reference as of now. Due date reminder was sent to you for august 5 statement immediately.


Me: But you told me you have registered me for internet service on 28 august 2007, how can u send a e-mail before that. Anyway can you forward me the mail again.


CC: That was an automated e-mail, we can not forward it.


Me: But 5 septmber statement is automated too.


CC: Yes


Me: But I have replied on the mail, its working, how can that be a automated e-mail?


No answer


Me: this is crap bank, I would like to cancel my card.  I am sending u the full amount with interest and penalty. Please consider as final and issue me a no due letter.


CC: Sir there will be rollover interest next month too.


Me: There will be always a gap between payment date and statement date. So perpetually u are going to charge interest for me. This story will never end then.


CC: It doesnt happen like dat, next month one small amount of interest you have to pay.


Me: But when I want to pay, why should I wait for your next month, why cant u issue a final bill now and settle whatever is there.


CC: You have to wait for next month statement, thats rules.


Me: This bank is a crap, can you assure that next month statement would be final one.


No reply*


I cut the phone....


Friends look at this bank, even if u want to pay they make sure that u hang on as prey and the dispute continue for a longer time with some penalty and interest on penalty and interest.


Say ur bill date is 5 september and you pay immediately on 5 September the cheque will get cleared on 8th or 9th. So again u will be charged penalty and interest next month, this will happen as long as you live unless u take them to court.


Other noted fact about standard harassing bank is they do not give any date and time on their internet banking.This is a peculiar phenomenon, you will not notice with any bank.


Meanwhile I wrote back to their head of card services in Chennai asking for  a final due. I haven’t got any reply for last two days, of course its very immaturity from my part to expect a reply from standard harassing bank in two days.


Next I have decided I will forward all these document trails to RBI ombudsman, can anybody give me some different solutions.


Standard harassing bank cards can be gifted to your enemies if at all you have!
