My Favorite Scrub! Just Watch For Cuts...

Because I have extremely dry skin (especially in the colder months), I’m always on the hunt for that “perfect” scrub- a scrub that’ll help aid my dry skin (by removing it!), exfoliate and reveal a layer of glowing skin that looks much more healthy.

I tried St. Ives Apricot Scrub, for the first time, many years ago; I was browsing the skin care aisle in a local drugstore and came across the lovely orange container (tub, not the tube version which is also available) and decided to purchase it (about $3.00). First off, I love apricots- I love to eat them and I adore the smell of them… I knew I’d love the scent and I knew I’d love slathering this all over my face.

Upon twisting the lid off (if you have the tub version), you’ll be presented with a semi-thick mixture that’s oatmeal in color with brown pieces (these are walnut shells). Many exfoliaters contain walnut shells (instead of exfoliating “objects” that are rounded off and more safe)- these can be harmful to your face if you scrub too hard so be careful! Scrubbing too hard can cause little (and invisible) cuts all over your face… make sure you’re gentle (especially if your face is sensitive).

Ahhhhh…. Smells So Good!

St. Ives Apricot Scrub does smell like apricots, though there’s a bit of “chemical-y” smell behind the fruity smell. It’s not all that strong so if you really detest the smell of apricots, I don’t think it would bother you to the point of not using it just because of the smell. There’s also a medicated version of the apricot scrub (to aid in pimples) which does not smell like apricots, it’s got that more “medicated” fragrance to it.

Directions

Moisten face and throat, apply with wet fingers and massage gently (carefully avoiding eyes). Rinse well and pat dry.

Pretty simple, eh? Well, it sounds simple, anyway! Rubbing the scrub on your face is simple- it’s not dry so you don’t have a “cake on” problem… the problem I do have, however, is rinsing the scrub off of my face. Because it’s thick, it’s hard to get off… especially the walnut shells; they tend to stick around and stay on the face, no matter how much you wet your face, rinse or scrub with the washcloth. The only thing that ever gets it completely off is the toner I use after I get out of the shower.

The results, though, are definitely worth that minor setback. This stuff really works! After usage, my face looks much more healthy and less dry; my flakes are considerably reduced. It also makes my face feel softer.

As stated before, you can purchase the scrub in a tube or a tub (container… jar)- the tub is bigger than the tube (12 ounces as opposed to a 6 ounce flip top tube)- the other main difference, obviously, is one you squeeze out and the other you dip your fingers into (which can be more of a hassle).

Concluding…

For a pretty cheap price, it’s a great product. You don’t always have to pay more for better products! Just be careful when using (as I said before)… you don’t want cuts all over your face.
