METALLICA... aahhhhh.. when u hear the name, people immediately crown them with terms like ''Masters of metal''.. ''greatest metal band of all time''..
I would just say.. U r a novice in what's a wonderful field, please listen to some solid stuff before jumping guns
Firstly, I am writing this review after listening to a song by maiden - seventh son of a seventh son.. and immediately switch to this combined effort of pure ''crap''..
I hear from someone that this album brings the aggressive days of ''kill em all'' back...
Ohhh really??? I am sorry for these dudes, coz they dont know the difference between a ''riff'' and ''out of scale (it sounds so) strumming''
Without any prejudices, metallica's first 4 albums were killer.. ''And justice for all'' was extremely progressive.. But I am sorry.. that was it - The pace was completely slowed down during the ''black album''.. and we hear it everywhere and its so damn true, They started SELLING OUT albums.
Aggression is just not increasing the overdrive in the amplifiers and screaming out of ur lungs and grinning the teeth. This is kids stuff man.. I just cant believe, its the same band from kill em all (a great album without doubt) giving powerful riffs like ''four horsemen''...
But still I am sorry, Mustaine deserves credit for the riffs of four horsemen..
Still the talents of this band is very much with great albums like puppets and ''and justice''
I can empathise with u people who consider this as metal... becoz even I started listening to metal with metallica.. I guess any person when they switch from ''pop'' to ''metal'' will obviously start with this band
Please guys.. There are far more albums in the metal field waiting to be explored..
Coming to the album
1) FRANTIC - Starts with a riff??? I thought people would find riffs in ''hallowed be thy name''. Wait a min, I hear the soda cans being hit.. Ohhh, I am sorry.. It was Lars hitting the drums.
What a horrible production man!
And by the way, does this band have a bass guitarist? I sure cant hear anything.. Maybe he is just playing with E open string (as it seems).
By the way - Y is kirk still in the band if he is not playing leads?
Sad man.. the same band played a powerful ''lead'' part in the song ''one''.
And James sings ''Frantic - tic - tic - toc''... hmmm..
Singing was never worse by such a penetrating vocalist.
5.40 into the song, U hear drummer hitting drums with rythm similar to someone violently banging at a door.. Guitar played blindfolded.. And I thought the bass guitarist was dead? Still I cant hear the bass, Wonder if they even included him
But by the far - This song is the BEST of the WORST set of songs

2) ST.ANGER - Some people were really impressed with Lars drumming on this, and say this is his most ''energetic'' performance
All I have to say, Please listen to a dave lumbordo of slayer in a song called ''angel of death'' and define ''double bass drums''.. if u know what it means.
Ahh.. James stop grinning ur teeth, only if aggression in metal was as simple as this.
Then even my pop in law can enter into the metal field
Still man, Searching for the lead.. Its lost in this already lost band
After 5 mins I think its over.. but no.. James continues to piss off my head.. Again back to sqaure one

3)SOME KIND OF A MONSTER - I look at the time duration and mentally prepare myself to sit for this 8 min odd song.
A movie was supposed to be made about how the band re-emerged after almost they were torn apart..
I thought a dis-banding of metallica would have them better respected in the field of metal. Most of my friends crave for metal, and let me tell u - 95% of them HATED it.. Not becoz its worst album ever! I would certainly prefer this over some linkin park or crap (though its not metal)...
Its sad to see a band go down to the ditch, having once created 4 great albums back to back

4)DIRTY WINDOW - What the hell on earth is this band playing? The same ''so called'' riff repeats.. My god.. do u really have to know the scales to play this song?
And do I really call lyrics? I really would prefer ''twinkle twinkle little star'' with a paranoid riff.. The song has no riffs and no anything. And they try to break into a melody and try to bring back aggression.. Its making it worse

5)INVISIBLE KID - Same style of St.Anger continues. Are they trying to imitate linkin park or one of the crap guys out there?
They won the grammy for ''Best hard rock performance in 2003'' which says it all - They were selling out
A year which had masterpieces like Dance of death - maiden, Dream theater - Train of thought, Helloween - Rabbit dont come easy and the list goes on
By the time I think about everything else, the song gets over

Man.. its got way over my head. If u manage to listen to the entire album, James and his guys must fall at ur feet!

I guess the 2.5 says that its worth for metal kids in the making, watching them on tv and boasting that they r followers of ''king of metal''
