MY BATCH IS 2003-2005.
Actually this course name is P.G.D.M.L.T(Post Graduate Diploma in medical laboratory Technology) it is offered in SVIMS, Tirupati.
The basic qualification for this course is any science Graduate(B.Sc). Hence this is titled as a Post Graduate Diploma.
The course fee is 13500/- per year.
There is no college and no classes for this course, directly from the day of the starting of the course hands on experience means directly posted in the departments and sample collections centres.
Occasionally there used to take classes by MD doctors in the lab it self, some times on standing mode only they use to take classes.
There is no exam in first year, on completion of the course at 24th month there will be practical and theory exam .whole marks is 450 only. Biochemisty - 150 marks, Microbilogy-150 marks and pathology - 150 marks.
While during the course period there will be even night duties and there was 24 hours duty also performed by our students.
While studying itself I raised so many complaints. Dr.Kumara Swamy reddy prof.& head of the pathology and former dean of SVIMS was incharge and targetted me hold certificate also. By Struggling and with my B.Sc study knowledge and computer help some how I got passed and worked there only in the department of biochemistry for a period of 4 years. Somehow I tried to change the course methodology by allowing my junior to perform the tests manually and sharing the techniques to them from first day upto the best of my knowledge. after passing the course with a struggle and hard work. there is no proper receiving of the certificate in the State govt. of Andhrapradesh. Bcoz there is no specific requirement for the post of Lab Technician in the govt. also other than diploma in MLT.
Even after completing the PG course it was treated equal to diploma after ssc. It was so sad to inform that the matter was brought to Dr.Vengamma ex-director of SVIMS. to convert this course into master degree.
Dr.Vengamma told " we will see the possibilities for the benefit of the alumni of the course" but no use.
The most and sad new is that even in the same institute there is no specific recognization for their courses. While giving Medical lab technician notification they are asking BSc MLT or PGDMLT.
After our memorandum the course was stopped at SVIMS and started as a BSc MLT.
this is my experience which grilled my life ambitions for higher education. my message to the students is
"You are capable of more than you know. Choose a goal that seems right for you and strive to be the best, however hard the path. Aim high. Behave honorably. Prepare to be alone at times, and to endure failure. Persist! The world needs all you can give'.
