We have a taste of both north and south in our house. Although I am from south, I have lived the main parts of my life in the north.
Sree Gupta Bhawan is near my house and we often go there to try our north Indian tastes.
While I am damn sure that they could cook better, nevertheless, what they offer is reasonably good. The restaurant is neat with servings of north Indian dishes ranging from Chaats to Thali to Chole Batture. Their Chaats are supreme with Chole Batture and Thali diminishing in taste in that order.
With the other hotels and restaurants being more than stuffed during the days we go to eat, we find this place relaxing whence we don’t have to wait and re-settle.
I especially love the Paani-Poorie they prepare and finish it with a flourish always wanting more.
It is a very sought-after place for north Indians and others alike for food. It also has a variety of sweets which can be found only in some places in the south.
It started years before and is a chain in and around Chennai.
Since I had been going there often, I had on some occasions some chances to complain and for the want of good service felt to mention the same here. If you go there often be prepared to get some bad treatment on their behalf. All the same measures were taken to rectify and keeping a far distance on some occasions has given a chance for them to improve.
They have also tied up with Zomato and Swiggy, the online food calling business apps. When we don’t go there we call for it through these apps.
It is a complaint from my side that some of the low-price dishes on some occasions are not available on the apps and it leaves us with resentment that we could not eat Samosa or Paani-Poorie.
Sometimes when called through the apps the service is not available because as they say no person to collect and deliver the items from Sree Gupta Bhawan. But there are more occasions when they have served and served well.
All in all, good time to spend eating when at this place. Not to be missed, but not to go often.
