Springfield’s is a heritage property run by the Usha Lexus Group of Hotels. Heritage properties like Springfields have a certain niche owing specifically to the ambience and aura these hotels present which is an experience within itself. The advantages presented by Heritage hotels include the architecture, which is basically in the Victorian style, open spaces for gardens and parking, larger rooms with wooden flooring and fire places etc. and a charm of the old world. Springfields originally belonged to the Sheikhupura line, which were originally vassals of the Mughal Emperor Jehangir. It is one of the few properties in Shimla, which has retained its Old World charm and not succumbed to the temptation of expansion at the expense of quality and ambience. A drive-in property in Chotta Shimla, it is situated a little distance from the Mall. The hotel used to be the residence of a Muslim aristocrat Md Yohaya Khan, who built it for his summer refuge. He left for Pakistan during the Partition. Raja Dhyan Singh of Sheikhupura, a large estate near Lahore bought it for his Himachali queen Chandragupta. Later in the year 1987, the prince converted the palace into a heritage hotel. The Usha Shriram Group bought the property in 1992. The hotel has one of the most beautiful gardens in town and also boats of beautifully done up interiors with many objects d'art purchased during the Maharaja’s time from art galleries and antique dealers all across the country. It is a small hotel with only 11 rooms, allowing for the round the clock staff to provide personalized service fit for a maharaja!
