Expectations.Expectations.Expectations.

Some wise guy once said(or was it  Newton?) "Intensity of your disappointment is directly proportional to height of your expectation".

It  all started with a teaser which I saw 2 years ago, it said; "The greatest battle lies within" & it accompanied magnificent poster of a superhero in a dazzling dark suit, perched on the top of a building with rain falling on him.(Its still there in my computer).

So intense, was the effect of this poster and punch line that, I already had created my own version of a story … which would follow in "Spiderman - 3"

."A superhero struggling with himself" & he wins against the intense battle of conscience and vanquishes his internal demons as well as external enemies.

(I had even started promoting spidey-3 unofficially.no SONY hasn't paid me any money, nor do they intend to pay in future)

REALITY HITS…

So, my expectation from the movie was really high(coz' I thought this sequel would take SPIDEY in the league of'Lord of The Rings') and my guess about the plot was more or less similar to what came in the movie.

I couldn't watch it on day one, so watched it on day three(unfortunately, by then reports had started pouring in with not so impressive reviews; but I being a true devotee(like many other lesser mortals who fool themselves by believing in'super hero' phenomenon n' Hollywoodz credibility in giving true shape to their belief ) … went to the movie hall with a clean slate. just to relive the surreal experience provided by 2 previous films…

I watched movie with a keen interest(though I had decided that I wouldn’t go out for popcorn during interval, so as not to miss any scene. but SAM RAIMI, the director wasn't convinced, I guess these guys have a profit cut in'popcorn sales' also(probably thatz the reason Itz so expensive in multiplexes)

.so by interval, I had started feeling grumpy about whole film and had a relaxed long break(which resulted in missing 7 mins of second half; and I don't regret it)

Watched second half and came out with a realisation that "Wise guys are actually wise" & had a strong feeing that why was I so much against "KKRISHH", our own desi superhero

SO WHAT WENT WRONG.

Guys I'm not saying that its a bad film(those who are still obsessed with spidey-3 are requested not to start pelting stones on my home page. u might end up destroying your computer screens & warranty doesn't cover any deliberate damage to the equipment).

I am just saying that "Its not that great"…

Here it goes…

Life is moving perfectly fine for spidey, he is doing well in life…. Its just that his girl friend MJ is going through a bad phase ‘professionally’ and for some reason it starts affecting her personal life also….

now, she also suffers from this typical female syndrome(and mind it… even a superhero can’t understand whatz going in a lady’s heart/mind)

MJ feels that spidey doesn’t understand her(can you guys feel KARAN JOHARz ‘KANK’effect…. I guess Director has deliberately tried to get the script twisted….

Coz’ one sixth of the world loves JOHAR stuff, so I guess SAM RAIMI also got “inspired” and took a commercially viable decision)

Wait… therez more to it…. MJ finds a friend in Mr. Junior Green Goblin(remember the bad guy from spidey – 1, his son ‘Harry Osborn’ and spideyz good friend)…. Old love is rekindled(or so Itz made to feel)….

Therez another angle which comes by way of Mr. Junior Goblin planning to avenge his father’s death(Now spidey has 2 reasons to hate this guy’s cologne. or was it the bad breath)….

Enters another small time rookie villain from SPIDEY -1, remember the guy who killed spidey’s uncle Ben…. By a twist of fate and some twisted physics experiment he turns into a ‘SAND MAN’….(trust me guys this fella is far better when he is not ‘sandman’ and ‘sandman’ is pretty novice when it comes to comparing screen effect & devilish ways of Dr.Octavious in SPIDEY -2(comparisons …comparisons… comparisons….  Can’t help)

SPIDEYz run with bad luck doesn’t end here; now therez another “alien villain”….(I guess director thought since, its SPIDEY – 3 so there should be minimum 3 villains…. Actually there are 5 or its 6 if u consider TOBEY MGUIREz new avatar also…poor math.)

Now therez truckloads of confusion compressed in a 2 n’ a half hours movie… son avenging father’s blood… good guy under the skin of bad guy… super good guy fighting with his inner complexities and coming out as a winner….

Friend, who had turned foe, gets to know the truth and sacrifices his life; just to give 2 dimensions to a 3 D LOVE TRIANGLE….

Not to forget, the extra terrestrial villain(who initially helps SPIDEY in turning into a wicked superhero)

QUE: Why do we believe in super heroes and why do we watch their films?

ANS: Coz’ we need fun…. Good guy is invincible, he beats pulp out of bad fellaz… saves planet earth(also a damsel in distress/his obvious love interest) and lives happily ever after….all this is justified with ultra cool action sequences…

Now, the problem with this movie is that it has too many dimensions… counting it would defy all laws of physics…

First half is really sloppy when you see SPIDEY struggling within himself and unable to find support in MJ….

SPIDEY as Peter Parker had personal problems in part -2 also, but that gave a decent credibility to the idea that every super hero is ultimately a human being; so bit of emotions n’ stuff would do… and not to forget spectacular action sequences(that makes a true super hero film)

SPIDEY – 3 seems like ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’ being made in Hollywood … where the budget is close to 250 million dollars and you have to add a depressed/confused super hero to it; and a gang of baddies also….

It’s an average film; TOBEY lacks the spark…. Kirsten Dunst looks stressed out all the time…. I must say, all three villains are cool(except for the fact that Mr. Alien looks like a cartoon character….)

Some action sequences so fast that beyond a point everything looks mere CGI(or I need to get my eyes tested…. Coz’ one fight sequence is so complex that I couldn’t identify who is fighting whom…. and trust me I wasn’t sitting in front row of a wide screen movie hall)

Second half is far better than first one(or was it the pop corn effect?…. I guess not)

A friend of mine felt so bad after the movie that he decided to skip dinner(NO I am not blaming the movie…. probably he had an extra pack of sandwiches during long interval or its just that his tummy got upset)

VERDICT: After coming out of the movie hall you won’t feel that adrenaline rushing in your body(OK… I always feel that post climax, in good super hero films)
