The title of this film shouldn't be Spiderman 2, but Spiderman too! The friendly neighbourhood Spiderman sneaks in a friendly guest appearance while the peter pan or Peter Parker valiantly tries to steel the show. Alas, he fails. really badly. I paid for the ticket money to go into the unreal dreamy world of a comic character and his glorious antics. Not for some stupid buffoonery of a Forrest Gump meets The Beautiful Mind.

I read somewhere that Tobey Mcguire wasn't too happy with the popularity of Spiderman even though he played it onscreen. The reason cited was that the praise was showered on Spiderman and the actor in Tobey was overlooked. And I don't know why the director took his grouse seriously while making the sequel. The Spiderman without the mask isn't half as convincing. Anyway, move on to the story guys or maybe the lack of it....

Peter pan, ooooops Peter Parker is a do gooder an empty pocket. He lives in a dingy rented room with a rather bothersome landlord. There's no permanent job and he is unable to concentrate on his studies. His lady love cares for him but he can't express his feelings for her. The reason is obvious folks! He is the mysterious hero Spiderman and he can't risk the lives of his loves ones. Got it! Right.....

Then we the poor audience are made to go through the ordeal of some silly scientist with a weird idea on Fusion Energy. His experiment fails and the world saver becomes the biggest destroyer in the form of a terminator like iron Octopus. Spiderman has to come to the rescue of hapless civilians time and again to save them from the mad professor.

In the middle of all this our friendly unsure Peter Parker realises that he is losing it. Literally! He realises that by being the Spiderman he is doing a great disservice to himself. Now, hello! what's all this guys.....I am not here to watch just about any movie about - To be or Not to be. The morals, the discourse of gift one has and how one ought to sacrifice one's own happiness in helping others. I am here to enjoy my popcorn and cola with some nervewracking moments so that the time flies away jet speed. The exciting moments are there for sure, but not really enough. And whenever the Spiderman webs his magic, his mask goes off for the world to see his face in broad daylight. Simply not done!

The acting by lead actors is nothing out of the ordinary. The earnestness on Toby Mcguire's face is likable but he is no Sylvester Stallone to flex muscles convincingly. The lady playing the old aunt of Peter Parker is a delight to watch for her winsome charm and words of wisdom. The music is good and obviously the special effects are top notch, but then you obviously expect that from a big time hollywood extravaganza.

I watched Spiderman 2 in a Multiplex with barely ten people. I am unable to understand how could it be declared a hit so soon. Anyways, I am getting out of this sticky thing. And would also like to advice you not to fall in the web. Spiderman 2: An adulterated web. Miss it!
