Spicejet harasses its customers beyond limits

My husband Mohammad Saleemul Haq was about to fly from Spicejet flight No. 616, which was about to leave Kolkata on 25th April'06 at 18:20hrs, but the flight was delayed to 19:45hrs. We went to one of the head attendant Mr. Rizwan Quadri at 19:15hrs and asked for our luggage, which was already checked in, so that my husband could board another flight of Air Sahara to Delhi which was leaving at 20:15hrs. We also explained that it was extremely urgent for him to reach Delhi as he was to board another International flight KLM 872 (business Class) which was due to depart from Delhi to Amsterdam at 00:50 hr on 26/04/06. We even showed him the itenary and every relevant detail regarding his flight. We were even ready to pay the extra money for Air Sahara ticket but he refused to hand us our baggage and instead assured us that it’s their guarantee that my husband would be in Delhi at the most by 22:30 hrs.


At 20:00 hrs my husband did the security check and boarded the flight by 21:00hrs. All the passengers were held up inside the flight, without AC, for one hour, after which the the passengers wanted to get off the flight. The Spicejet did not give any explanation of the situation as to how long the flight will be delayed and for what reasons. Finally the flight took off for Delhi at 00.30 hrs. By that time it was useless for my husband to travel as it would not have been possible for him to report for his KLM flight in Delhi.


Finally at 22:00hrs we requested the ground staffs to Call up at the Delhi International Airport and cancel my husband's KLM ticket. They again assured us that they would do it but finally they didn't do anything about it.


Whenever we wanted to talk to any authorized head of Spicejet we were told that their head Mitali will personally talk to us and sort out the matter. We were told that she would be coming soon to meet us. In this process we waited for her from 22.00hrs till 04:00hrs (i.e 6hrs!) but she didn’t show up at all!


We were mentally harassed and at last in the morning around 4:30 am we left the airport and returned back home after nearly 12 hrs of harassment.


We have no complaint with the flight delay but when the officers knew about the urgency of our matter, then they should have handed our baggages so that my husband could travel by some alternative airline. I think they should compensate us with a fresh ticket of KLM Flight because my husband had missed the flight only because of the negligence of the staffs of Spicejet. We even have a few fellow passengers who are ready to witness this whole episode.
