Speedup at what cost ?

Many have referred free softwares to use for speeding up your computer, and also your internet connection, but very few realize what they are advising.

On the internet nothing comes free, everything has something riding piggyback. And its called spyware, your favourite peer to peer client kazaa comes with spyware packed into it.

Spywares logs your internet activity, thus consuming both valueable RAM, CPU utilization and Bandwidth because they send this information regularly to their parent servers.

The best method to check this is to use a firewall, specially from Sygate(I am not refering to the free version but the PRO version). This provides you with realtime data transfer information between your computer and the internet. Also it protects you against the evils of the internet. There is a very big difference between freeware and shareware, which you need to understand.

When you are not browsing or using the internet in any way, while being connected why should there be any data transfer, have you ever tried to wonder?

Those people who use the DSL or Cable and who pay per MB downloaded, will be specially surprised to find their bills going out of control. Reason - Spyware, (from free softwares)

Your favourite download accelerator DAP is also a spyware, and very few people realize this, and simply recommend it without knowing how it works.

Many sites specially Alexa specialize in spyware, GATOR which is the most recommended product amounts to more than 90% of the SPAM floating around worldwide, because it collects information for spam servers. Why else do you think your spam mails increase after using gator?

Many people visit special underground search engines looking for tools to hack into other peoples email accounts, or other tools to scan the network or other unlawfull activity without realizing the payload they carry with them. No wonder you are forced to format your system more often, after such an activity.

The best and the most beneficial method is to keep your system updated by applying the latest patches and system updates from microsoft, protect your network with a firewall from Sygate(PRO version) or Zone Alarm, a good anti-virus like Norton. Its a known fact that McAfee does not protect as powerfully as Norton.

We are hosting web servers and database servers for Airtel GPRS Helpline and other products, we face around 11 virus hits every second, and regular network scan and other intrusions, had we depended on freeware, we would have gone bust by now. With every intrusion attempt the intruder IP is blocked for 16 days.

Remember one thing it is the policy of being the aggressor which protects you, a defensive policy always fails.

Always use your personal skills and not the freeware on the internet to speed up your system, if you do not know how then read about it on the internet there are always special sites providing written tutorials on how to proceed.

Always do what you know about, never follow blindly you are bound to cause more harm to yourselves than any good.

I am not against all freeware, but then you need to be able to distinguish between what is good for you and what is bad for you. Everything is good till a limit, beyond that it is never good for your digestion.

I have read the comments by some people to this review, and would like to ask them how fast their system actually works, comparing to our servers which were never formatted in the past 3 years, and are still working at top speed, just because we dumped freeware as a service policy.
