Chennai basically comprises of 60% of the parish populace entered into Chennai from the nearby villages. As their generations get settled here, they get accustomed to the modern orb & today Chennai is one of the leading cities encompassing modern youths and the well-educated & decent set of people. The entertaining places at Chennai include the most popular theme-parks like Queens’ Land, MGM Dizzee World, Kishkinta, VGP Wonderland, Mayaajal etc. and also lot of Bars, Pubs (Discotheques) & the theatres like the Abirami Complex, Rohini, Devi, Prarthana Open Air Theatre are specially there for you in Chennai to amuse you.

Bars & Pubs at Chennai :

Some of the most popular Pubs at Chennai include the Geoffrey's, Marina, Park Town etc. and the Discos at the EC41 at Enjambakkam, Gatsby 2000 & Park Sheraton.

But of late, lot of Star Hotels have opened up Pubs and include the usage of these as part of their stay-package if the guest is interested. The increasing number of Pubs at Chennai is clearly evident of the avant-garde guys & gals’ at this Metro city…!!

THE SPARKS PUB

Well, there are a number of spacious, aesthetically beautiful & decent Discotheques at Chennai. My visit to the beautiful Pub (Disco) “SPARKS” at Hotel Savera located at Dr. Radha Krishnan Salai, Mylapore turned out to be very pleasant. The entry fee to the Sparks is Rs. 400/- for a couple.

MY FIRST VISIT TO SPARKS

I had participated in one of the game shows conducted by a Private Channel and won a prize, for which I was given a beautiful cutlery set, some glass-bowl sets, and free movie tickets to the Tamil movie “Pudhiya Geedhai”.

Then in fact I had almost forgotten about it and after about a few months, I received a call from that cable channel extending an invitation to me to the “Sparks” and if I were interested, I could take three more persons with me. For some reasons, I normally don’t like to go to these Pubs, but since this is an offer all for free, I thought of just taking up the offer JUST ONCE. I visited the place with my husband and my sister & brother-in-law.

WE, AT THE SPARKS:

It was around 6.30 p.m. and since we had the free entry pass, we had to wait for quite sometime to enter the Pub. As soon as we entered the place, wow……. we could find that the place was very big & spacious, so beautiful and over-crowded by couples. The Interiors was wonderful with lovely wall-hangings and the doom lights were beautiful.

We could find clusters of couples in expensive costumes & weighty makeup and men were almost dressed in cool ‘shrunken’ short-sleeved tiny tops with tight jeans. My hubby was dressed in casuals and I was in my sleeveless chumki ghagra choli & finding myself comfortable with my outfit. The exceedingly dressed girls were just enjoying themselves with the welcome-drink in hand and were proudly introducing their partners to others.

Despite the crowd, the hall was very airy & brightly lit which gave me a great relief from the whole-day’s tensed moments. But the environment did seem little strange to me as it was my first visit to a Pub. Incidentally, we learnt that DJ Ivan was visiting the Sparks at that time. I am not much after these DJs but since the crowd was really very inquisitive about the DJ’s arrival, it made me a little curious too.

We were offered welcome-drinks which were fresh juices -mango, orange & watermelon. I chose watermelon – the drink was good & refreshing. We didn’t know how to start off with the evening, but a few girls called us to dance with them and so we joined them. The music was initially harmonious & with time the beats got amplified and it was almost rocking. A sudden screaming amidst the crowd revealed the arrival of the long-awaited DJ. To my surprise, the DJ’s face was very familiar to me & I vaguely remembered seeing him in Bangalore a few years ago. Then, a couple informed us that Ivan was earlier at the Windsor Manor Club in Bangalore.

Many people crowded around the DJ but most of them were still dancing with their fresh glasses of drinks. The DJ got pretty busy and some arrangements were being made for a concert. We literally got very tired after a few hours of dancing & continuous chatting and it was a wonderful experience that we got to meet & converse with lot of lovely girls and we exchanged lot of sweet nothings. Sometimes these ‘Hi’ ‘Bye’ acquaintances do remain memorable and that evening still remains evergreen in my memory even now.

Since we had other commitments too at home and had left our pets alone, we left the Club by around 9.30 p.m. and had our dinner at Hotel Savera itself. The hotel had a very good ambience and the maître d'hôtel were exceptionally polite & friendly. We enjoyed our simple dinner and walked our way out. We were informed that the Pub would be rocking until about 4.00 a.m. I was rather surprised to find that, once we are out of the club into the Hotel Lobby, it is a completely different environment out there.

Since that I have at present visited 3 or 4 pubs now, I would certainly recommend the Sparks, which is one of the most beautiful, well laid-out, sociable & gracious pubs at Chennai and a must-see for the pub-lovers. Do let me know your experiences at this Discotheque.

Bye,

Jaya (Ur RRCings most welcome)
