I shifted to pune for working on July 2005 from kerala. Within a month of the ''sweet'' maharashtra cuisine, I was itching for Calicut Chicken Biriyani(The best in India, without a doubt) or any mallu food. One of my friends recommended this particular rest called Southern Spice and my friend and I decided to check it out
We reached the rest at around 9:30 pm after seeing Sarkar at Inox. First we waited for around 10 mins outside the hotel for a table to be available. After that we had to wait for...25 minutes to give an order.(Puutu+Kadala and Kappa+Beef!!!!) . Waiting....More waiting...Still more Waiting...................
Finally our dishes arrived. The Tapioca was ok but the curry was not the spicy stuff from kerala, more like boiled meat than a curry. My veggy friend was not also spared. Because of our hunger, we were able to finish the food pretty quickly and then we waited...and waited.....and waited for the finger bowl to arrive. The cumulative effect of all these were that we missed the bus and had to run around asking for directions in a still strange city!!
We promptly gave our friend a rather large piece of our mind. His counter argument was that since we were very late in reaching the hotel(We were the last to leave it) the food may not have been the best. He assured that whenever he went there he got really good stuff.
So we decided to give it another shot. This time I brought another of my friends along. This time I ordered sea food and the results were ....even worse!
The price of the food here is pretty high but I can live with it. The only thing that I ask in return is good food. If the same food was given to me in any of the small hotels that I used to visit during my college days, I would have made a sharp complaint. But no longer! I can confidently say that I had way better food even in ''thattukadas'' at a fraction of the cost that I incurred in this particular restaurant. NOT RECOMMENDED!
