It happened to visit Angamaly Branch of South Indian Bank last week. I approached the person who is sitting in the account opening section and asked for the formalities to open a regular savings account.
He has given a form and said the minimum balance requirement is Rs.5000. After some argument he agreed there is another account which's minimum balance requirement is Rs.1500. He asked me to take a copy of PAN card and Aadhar(Strange that they cannot take a photocopy). He have given the form and I left the bank.
Later, I searched and sent a mail to the branch. The AM replied saying the minimum balance requirement is Rs. 1000. Then I asked her why the person handling the section asked me for Rs.5000. There were no reply.
Then I sent emails to their headquarters, then she replied that the mentioned account was privilege account(Who asked for that, when someone ask for regular account, give that)
But the sad part is, top management is adamant, they did not even bother to send me a reply.
I bank with SBI(earlier SBT) since 11 years, if you write to chairman, you will surely get a reply from their Secretariat. But these private banks never bother. They always give preference to NRI account. They will do anything for NRI customers.
Anyway I decided not to go with them
