Souk- Med Food. Review on Souk, Nariman Point, Mumbai

Souk- means marketplace. But dont go on the name, it is not busy, noisy or smelly.It is one of the most upmarket resturants in India. The place is done up stylishly modern med( whatever that means!)Very classy and chic with a breath taking view of the Gateway and it surroundings. I feel like a tourist when I sit there and stare at the sea which I have seen so many times. Make reservations since you don't want to be disappointed although the wait is never long on week days, weekends- don't even try to go without a reservation. If you ask them beforeheand for a table by the window you feel your money's worth as soon as you sit.

The food is above good, no I wouldn't say excellect because I have had better. But in India it wouldn't get better than this.The mezzes are all good depending on your food choice. Go by the waiters choice they are very well versed with the food and intelligently understand your type of food once you start to order.I still go for the typical stuff like hummous, baba ghanoush, fattoush, tzatziki, dolmas, tabblouleh - some names might be different. In hot - The foul beans are also great with the pita. Don't try something new . I did but din't like it I still prefer our regular lebanese fare.I usually fill myself with the mezzes both hot and cold, so hardly eat in the main course. Maybe a cous cous or something light. Also main course is better for the non veggies and since I am a veggie.

Try a glass of arak for a more exotic touch. Or try any wine. Its very highly priced so don't ge a shock when you see the bill.Try and go for a special occasion because if you have to dish out so much than might as well save it for something special. Talking about that, there a very novel table tucked away in the balcony of the kitchen of the resturant which I gurantee NO ONE knows about. Save it for the marriage proposal if you want . It is called the casablanca table - table for two, rupees 12000, eat till you drop, order the wine, and enjoy from 8 till the resturant shuts.

All in all, great food, prompt service and a ambience to die for.
