My first encounter with Korean food was at Soo Ra Sang during their time in Koramangala 4 years ago. It was a breezy dinner outing & little do I remember the name of what I ate, the flavor or taste. From then on, my curiosity to return for an elaborate meal met no success until recently. A Sunday filled with empty cravings proved that curiosity does not kill the cat alone & there we were, sitting in front a bbq grill looking at the menu like Mr. Bean looking at the green calculus paper. Apart from our table, two other tables were occupied. Out of which one had a big group of Koreans smoking profusely & drinking Beer & Sojo.

We were offered a complementarypancakeasthe hostess walked up to our table & asked “What would you like to have for the evening?” We said “barbeque would be nice”. She showed us a few options on the menu & we settled for Beef tongue & Samgyeopsal. The former needs no explanation & the latter is a three layered pork belly meat that looks similar to bacon. The meat was grilled right at our table without any marinade. We consumed it directly from the grill with the choice of rare, medium rare & well-done. Both the dishes were served with few varieties of banchan like namul & kimchi.

Sometime during the grilling process I asked for a can of beer, preferably an alien brand to match the food & ambience. Even before I could finish, the hostess started “WHO TOLD YOU THAT WE SERVE BEER?.I DON’T LIKE PEOPLE COMING HERE TO DRINK”. In the process of this conversation I learnt that she did not have a liquor license & has gone to the extent of translating “Kingfisher” to a Korean name in the menu. Her attitude towards us tumbled & she was running all around the place complaining about people blogging on the internet & displayed no regret. It was such a sour site for any regular taxpaying & law abiding citizen. We quickly finished our Gimbap, buried our main course plans, settled the bill & left, determined never to return ever. Winning is nice, only if integrity is not lost in the process.
