Okay! So this is going to be a tough one to write as phones are something very person specific. You may love the same phone I hate the most and Vice-versa.
My association with this phone was purely out of attraction rather than research on its specifications. A phone that has style to kill you hands down(the glass like body, I am still not sure if it is glass).
Before I list the pros and cons please note that all good things you heard from your local mobile reseller, friends, and colleagues about its exceptional camera quality and sound quality are over rated.
Pros:
One of the most eye catching phones you would have seen/held/talked about
Water proof, dust proof actually work well. No please don’t dip it in the fish tank please.
UI(User Interface) is elegant, good fonts, colours of the icons give you a premium feel when you slide your finger across menu options etc.
Some good connectivity options connecting a game console, wireless TV connectivity(which most of us will not do but a good point on paper?)
Five incher with 441ppi is a good screen even to this date with Z2 already in the market with nothing greater than 441ppi. Videos are crisp(I am not mentioning the viewing angles here, that should come in the cons later)
Front cam does a real good job on Skype with its 2.2MP, selfies in good light comes pretty neat.
Cons:
Android updates very late. For instance my XZ came with a Jelly Bean Out of the box and I could only get Kitkat about 2 weeks back. Not the case with the Samsungs, Motorolas etc(yes they are a google company but that cannot be the reason to me)
Very laggy after the Kitkat update, you can feel that when you pull down the notifications screen. Forge GPU rendering is a Dev option to reduce this lag but does not help a great deal overall. Simple games like subway surfer, temple run start to show lag.
I could play dead trigger 2 without any issues before the Kit Kat update
Do you know about the famous "screen self crack" issue on the Z and Z1 phones? Please Google in case you don’t know. You may also want to type "screen viewing angle issues Sony Z" . This also applies to Z1. Not sure about Z2
Non removable battery means you will have to hard reset the phone if it decides to freeze on you occasionally. Happened to me once and I had no option but to press the power and Vol up button to get the recovery mode going. Not very pleasing in the very first month of purchase.
Stock earphones are below average(or shall I say pathetic) and you have no option other than going for another one if you are a music lover. Z1 boxes better earphones.
How can I miss to mention the Puny 2300mah small battery that drains in 7-8 hours on moderate usage. A real disaster for Xperia Z. You will almost always end up with a switched off mobile on your way back home from office in case you forgot to carry your charger. Battery management extremely poor.
Auto mode on the camera is very noisy, upon doing some research I found that burst mode clicked pictures with better details. Cannot expect this from the Sony.
