As shared in my review for Xperia mini. which had a design defect .i got it replaced for Xperia mini pro by paying the differential.
I wanted to buy an android phone . options I considered were the LG optimus, HTC wildfire S, Samsung galaxy ace, and couple of phones by motorola and the xperia.
I dont like LG phones and I hardly have any LG phone users in my friend circle.while I could not find Motorola phones in mumbai.
My previous phone was samsung corby and so I didnt want my next phone to be a samsung, also the plastic back cover in samsung galaxy doesnt look good. Even xperia has plastic but with a glossy finish
It was a close call between HTC wildfire and Xperia but specwise it made sense to buy Xperia which has 1Ghz processor while HTC wildfire has 600 Mhz processor. Although wildfire has a larger display, xperia surely has a better clarity because of bravia technology used in Xperia.
So heres my review for it
The package:-
You get the handset with a battery, a white colored cover(not a leather cover), Headphones, Data cable which becomes a charger along with the round pin provided and an extra back panel.
Look & Design:-
The xperia mini pro really looks cool and sophisticated. I have the white one.136 gms weight feels a bit heavy but you get a full qwerty keypad.The phone has a very sensitive captive touch screen and feels good to use.The front part has 2 proximity sensors, one light sensor and one camera. The back has a 5 megapixel camera and LED flash. The charging point and the headphone jack is at the top.There are volume keys and camera key on the right side
Display and user interface:-
The display is simply amazing because of the bravia display as mentioned earlier.Xperia mini pro has the 2.3 version of android called as the ginger bread.It has 5 homescreens and one can add widgets/shortcuts as per choice.It has 4 shortcuts at the corners. Every home screen can be customized.You get 7 inbuilt themes and am not sure whether themes can be downloaded. The menu is easy to use but one will take some time to get used to it.
Battery backup:-
Xperia mini pro has 1200mah battery and this is one department where it fails. The battery lasts for about a day. But this is the case with all android phones. With heavy internet and application usage the battery back up suffers in any android phone.
Camera:-
The 5 megapxel camera does a great job and gives great clarity. The flash is pretty usefull and effective for clicking pics under poor light conditions and it is pretty fast as well. One can record HD videos(High definition videos) with the camera.(Am attaching few pics clicked with the cam)
Music Player:-
Sony is known for music and this phone doesnt dissappoint you. The music clarity is really good and you get the regular equalizer and other options with it.
FM radio:-
Xperia features FM radio which is really neat and easy to understand. I didnt find the option to record FM but I guess one can download application for that.who records songs from radio when u can get MP3 tracks so easily?
Browser and other features:-
The browser is pretty smooth and responsive. One has the option to download opera mini from the android market. Xperia mini pro has many sync options. You can sync your phonebook with facebook and have profile pics of your friends displayed in your phonebook along with their status message. You can also sync your FB or picasa pics in the gallery.However sync may lead to heavy data usage which may result to battery loss. You also get the office suite which helps to read Excel, word documents.
Since it is android you have Gmail, Google maps, preloaded in this.
Memory:-
Xperia mini pro has 512 MB Ram which quite sufficient.External memory is 32gb expandable. One can control the running programs and keep a track of RAM usage.
Overall:-
Except the battery back up and heavy weight this phone is a real delight. As of now I think this is the best phone in it price range.
