I wanted to write this review for quite some time, but today I got some time to write it. I got my new Sony VAIO VGN-FS8900 Notebook as a wedding gift from my big bro. Although my bro has alwaiz been getting me all the latest technology stuff, this one is the masterpiece and that’s why I think it deserves a review from me after such a long silence. Well now coming onto the features of this VAIO Notebook. It has a Pentium M processor with the clock speed of 1.8GHz(probably not the fastest available today, but still its FAST). For those who don’t know what Pentium M means, I am giving 2 links:

Now coming onto RAM, this model has 1 GB RAM which is enuff for playing maximum of the games available in the market today. Although this is the minimum requirement for Microsoft Windows Vista OS, except for this, 1 GB RAM coupled with a Pentium M processor works wonders. Try playing games like POP3D, Quake IV or NFS. To enhance the gaming experience, FS8900 comes with a NVIDIA graphics card with a video memory of 128 MB. VAIO(Video Audio Integrated Output) as it is called, is a true multimedia laptop.

The display of this Sony VAIO laptop has the advantage of XBRITE technology, which means no hassles of adjusting of the LCD screen when the complete family is watching a movie on the 15.4” widescreen.

It also has a memory card reader. Well the drawback is that only Sony memory cards can be inserted into that card reader. But as I have s Sony Digital camera, it is perfect for me. Ease of use of that memory card reader is quite appreciable. Oh and I forgot to mention about the iLink port. It is also called as Firewire port. It is used to capture video from external devices like a Handycam. All you need is an iLink cable which I got easily in Delhi. Just plug and play with this port to capture DVD quality. This has saved us quite a lot of money because it is alwaiz not feasible to make a DVD of the captured video from outside. Normally capturing video from USB port does not give DVD quality as the speed of USB is very very slow as compared to the iLink port. The pre-installed software for the same also works perfectly. Now you can be a director at home and shoot movies and create DVDs out of them and share with anyone you want.

The wi-fi facility in this notebook allows you to surf the net anywhere in your home or any place in your campus if your institution gives wireless network connectivity. I have a Netgear wireless router to give me wi-fi internet at home.

All Sony VAIO notebooks come with the VAIO Recoverytool which helps you to re-install windows and or drivers and software again anytime. The backup is originally stored in a hidden drive which is a part of your HDD only. You can anytime create a Recovery DVD and delete that partition to use that space for you own personal use. But that is not advisable. When you have a Double layer DVD write drive, you can anytime free up your hard disk by writing a few DVDs from your hard disk.

The rest are normal features of any Notebook like 3 USB ports, touchpad with scroll facility, extra customizable shortcut buttons, Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition and Norton Anti-Virus software by Symantec. It also has 3 USB port for you to connect any compatible devices.

If you are planning to buy a notebook, think about this one and compare it with other options that you are seeking. I am sure you would surely chose this notebook over any other.
