I used to be a Sony Fan until I bought the new Sony Viao CR 363. Pardon my language; I think CR stands for "Crap 363".


I purchased this some time on the month of May 2008. I have always used Sony products and the only difference was that these were all out of the UK. Television, Music System and Lap top. The old Laptop was a really good piece however low on memory so I decided to swap my old Viao for a new CR series.


The laptop was fine except for things like it gives you a shock which feels like someone pierced you with a pin in the most sensitive area. Harmless but very annoying. The Laptop I must say has the best screen resolution and Photos’ and Videos are a pleasure to watch, however that was only until the Laptop passed its warranty period.


As soon after the warranty period ended, the laptop started to shut down and it would refuse to operate. The system was shutting down at least 3 times in 10 minutes at the starting stages and went down to as high as 10 times in 5 Mins (No I am not exaggerating).


So I took it to the Sony service centre. I was initially patient and told the guys in my first Visit as to what the problem was and they said it could be a FAN issue. I let them deal with it. I collected the system back after a few days and started to use. 2 days after that the same problem again. So I go to the Service centre and I get the same response. “FAN issue and we will sort that out”.


The saga continued and I had to make 2 more visits; in total of 4 visits in a month just that the last time was very special. I was told that the mother board needed a change. I asked the person at the counter if he was technically qualified to make that statement and the Individual had a blank smile which did not answer my question but conveyed a message.


Having run out of patience and tolerance, I called the corporate office in Bangalore and logged a complaint with the head of product one Mr Anil Kumar. He said he will look into this and will respond to me within an Hour but I insisted that he take a day and get back to me with all the details. Its 6 days with a weekend in between and Mr Anil has not bothered to call me back. Now I know from where the Service ethos seem to originate. It was somewhere round this time that I was speaking to my Brother in law and he said that he had the same problem and guess what the Model.... was :-) You guessed it


I am normally not a guy who takes defeat so easily. Like some great Indian said” Give up on a problem only after you are sure that you have tried the Indian way”. I banged the Laptop on the table not too hard but hard enough to get it working I guess. It 2 Hours now and the system is yet to shut down. May be this needs to also go into the one of the remedies when you Sony Viao shuts down without warning.All Jokes apart Guys!! You want to buy a Sony Viao after this: You must be really wealthy.
