Basically I am an electronics hobbyist and have fair knowledge of audio/video/computer hardwares and latest technologies and gadgets in the market. I had a Thomson 29 inch TV which was one of the worst product any company could have ever made. Basic reason for buying thomson 29 inch tv was, it was new entry in India in 1996 and cheapest of all 29 inch tv. It cost me Rs 38,500 then, while Akai, BPL etc were selling for 44,000 - 50,000. Thomson tv gave too much a problem and it was time to change.

Well as far as price goes, I could go for any tv including plasma, but I always go for value for money. I had been on look for good big screen tv for almost 2 years. Seen and compared all brands. Basic point to consider while looking for a tv is, do not go by its catalogue of what all features it has, but just see the picture and listen to sound.

Catalogue will give you a full lot of features in tech terms, half of it you will not understand and rest will not have any effect on the viewing or audio quality. Always go to the shop in day time , watch the tv program in full daylight and ask the shopkeeper to switch on all electric lights of its shop. Buy the tv you view best in these conditions.

After viewing Hitachi and Samsung, I settled for SONY KP XA 43. It cost me Rs 90,000. Also saw another model of Sony 43 inch, KP FX 43. Picture quality was same, audio little better. But it was selling for Rs 1,40,000. Certainly not worth Rs 50,000 extra.

One very important aspect before buying big tv is the distance you will be watching from. Before buying, check the viewing distance in your house, that is distance between proposed location of tv and your sitting place. For 43 inch tv, the viewing distance should be at least 10 ft. Less than that, you will be seeing horizontal lines in picture. So when you go to shop, view TV program from the same distance as in your house. For the price tag of Rs 90,000, screen size 43 inch, excellent picture quality and good audio, I consider this tv to be the best value for money among the brands available at present in Indian market.
