I got my ps3 the fat one with 40 gb hdd back in 2008, within the first week it stopped detecting any discs and so it was taken to a sony service center who after 10 days replaced it with a new one.
I remeber spending close to 5 hours a day playing various first person shooter games. Having played resident evil 4 on my ps2 the resident evil series was one of my favorte besides the uncharterted series and bioshock series.
over the years it handled all games well and never failed, the only irritating part of it was the fans would go on full blast many times and be extremely noisy.
Till back in 2013 when it used to switch of on its own or keep beeping the minute you start it.
Being out of warranty I decided to open it and clean the internals and replace the thermal paste. An hours job did prove worth it I could play games again till a month later when the same issue happened, this time I got a better thermal compound it worked for a week and finally started giving the red blinking light. On taking to sony they said they do not repair and if its within five years they will send it to their head office and let me know how much buyback they could offer for a new playstation. To add to my woes it completed 5 years just 4 days before that. So there I am left with some expensive scrap and with no one in India to reflow the chipset.
Beast while it lasts. But then again it worked for five years so full marks to it.
