At the age of 28, I may be late to join the party. But, I believe its always better to be late than never. Are your genes still playful? Go grab a PS2 and rock on from minute 1. Out of the box, I was amazed to see how slim n small it is. very soon I realized its negative impact. more on that later.
Very simple connections required. Plug n play is a dream come true. The length of the supplied controller chord allows you jerk along the car you are driving. The available longgggg list of games fill your daily dreams with the urge to add new one to your library tomorrow.
So, simple to buy, install and start playing. Now, to the Pros and Cons:
Pros:
Very slim and small. so, easy to carry around.
Lengthy controller chord. so, comes easy on your eyes.
Proven Mod allows you use locally copied game DVDs. Saves you big bucks.
Ample accessories (Mem card, (Wireless)Controller, Carry bay, Multiplier, Remote control etc etc) flooded in the local market at your backyard.
Cons:
Again Slim design - so, the buttons are tiny to operate.
When you Mod your PS2, you will have to keep resetting your unit if you shuffle between Original and copied DVDs.
Keeps you glued to the TV. You may risk losing your girl friend.
Too big games list. Drains your pocket each time you visit the DVD shop.
Lacks a remote control to Reset/Eject the unit.
Said that, let me share my little experience. Few copied DVDs create a stirring sound when you load it into your PS2. Better check the DVDs when you buy it. I do so.
Its rocking. Gives you real life experience (almost close to it). I am totally happy with it. May be because I have had the gaming spirit within. However, I am not exposed to PS3 or XBox. so, to me, this little wonder is sufficient and I strongly recommend this to people who look for value for money. IMHO, this unit should suffice your needs. I am just a starter. So, I will update this column as and when my PS2 throws new experience at me.
Price: Bought a modified one for 5900/-

Update 22-Apr-2010:
Last month I played SVCD Hindi Movies (Moser Bear I believe) in my PS2 and the MOD in PS2 got damaged. ie. Later on, the PS2 played only the original PS2 games DVDs and NOT the duplicate DVDs. I had to change the MOD again. Watch Out!
