I have purchased this tv for 75000 last week after doing lot of research from the past 6 months.

Earlier I thought of buying a flat panel TV. But the prices of LCD flat panel is beyond what I can afford.

I have compared various technologies before purchasing this tv. Plamsa was taken out of my option because of several disadvantages people talk about. And it looks like it is a dying technology.

About LCD : After some reasearch I found that flat LCD technology is not yet completely mature. The prices of flat panel LCD almost costs double the LCD projection TVs, with only little difference of picture quality. I went to a sony showroom and compared 3lcd projection vc LCD . When we look from near , there is a slight difference in the contrast ratio between these two. LCD looks more brighter. But when we look from a distance, absolutely there is no differance. In fact the colours were reproduced much better in LCD projection than a panel LCD. LCD flat panel costs around 1 lac to 1.5 lac for a 37 to 40 inch range. But I thought it is a real stupidity spending so much for just a little contrast ratio for the same size. But there are some advantages with flat panels, One, you can hang on a wall and two, you can view from very near.

Sound: I read some reviews about this lcd projection tv, people often told that, sound is not louder and clearer in projection TV. But , that is not correct. I have a big hall ( 20/10 ft ) , I can hear the sound from the last foot of my room with crystal clarity . Bass also very good in this tV. When I play dvd or satalite tv, it is much better. You can feel surround effect when playing some high quality hollywood dvds in this TV.

Size: There are different sizes available in this segment from 40 to 60 inches. But I found 42 inch one is more brighter and clearer than its big brothers of 50 inches and 55 inches. Remember , the same focus light is used in all these models. That means, the more the picture enlarged, lesser the quality. I asked the showroom guys to play different dvds with fast moving picture . There is no distortion or blurring of the image in chasing scenes with any fast moving objects. But you need to play the best quality dvds.

From many reviews I read that , the projection tv can not produce correct black color. However I found that, it is wrong after purchasing this. This TV is best suited for the people who wants bigger screen for a medium sized room in a medium price range.

Connectivity : There are lot of connectivities available for this TV. More importantly, HDMI. Be ready for high definition tv . When it comes to india , then this TV gives you the best. It also has well laid rear connectivitiy for several video options like composite, component, S-Video and an HDMI plus a PC connectivity and an audio out.

Maintenance: The only problem I can think of this type of TV as of now is changing the projection lamp for every few years. Sony reported that the lamp will last for 8000 hours of viewing, which is equal to 5 years if you watch 4 hours dialy. So, spending another 10,000 bucks for every 5 years is not very expensive , isn't it ? Infact , the TV glows as if it is a new TV once again after you install a new lamp. I consider this as an advantage for people who does not want to change Tv's for every few years. Flat LCD TV will be dead after 65,000 hrs of viewing.

Viewing Angle: The pictures looks dull if you see from an angle more than 130 degrees sideways. But do you watch a TV at 140 degress angle ?

Myth : LCD projection can not reproduce black levels.

Reality : Perfect black colors with an inbuild black correcter by Sony.

Myth : Very bulky

Reality : Not really , it just occupies a few inches towards the rear side when compared to LCD Flat panel.

Myth : Projection technology is dead.

Reality : This is not exactly similar to rear projection that was known in 90s, which is almost dead now. But , this is 3LCD projection, completely new tehcnology developed by Sony.

I recommend this TV is a perfect choice for the people who wants to enjoy their favourite movies on a big screen with perfect colours and does not want to spend too much for merely two or three added advantages of LCD flat panel TVs.
