It's been 3 month I purchased this Handycam. I am very much pleased with this camera.
Size: Storage media is Flash / Memory stick. So it is pretty small camera with very less weight.
Price: It's 25, 000. That includes camera, 32 gb Sony flash card, cover case and 3 year warranty. So I think it's good price for full HD camera.
Recording quality: It is Full hd camera so recording can be made in 4 qualities in HD recording.
Highest quality 50p(Progressive - full hd - 24mbps bit rate)(with 32 gb flash I can record for 3 hours)
High quality 50i(Interlaced - hd ready - 17mbps bit rate)(with 32 gb flash I can record for 5 hours)
3 Standard quality 50i(Interlaced - hd ready - 9mbps bit rate)(with 32 gb flash I can record for 7 hours)
- Long time 50i(Interlaced - hd ready - 5mbps bit rate)(with 32 gb flash I can record for 9.5 hours)
I record in Standard Quality. I can not find any visible difference between Standard quality and Highest quality on my 51 Inch Plasma full HD samsung tv. But the file size is 3 times more in Highest quality then Standard quality.
It has provision to record in STD Quality(Non hd). But I have not used it till.
On screen menu: It has very few buttons on it. The menu is touch screen, which is very simple to operate and understand.
Open and shot: It has no on-off button. Just open the LCD screen and the camera is ON. To turn off the camera just close the LCD screen. So practically it's zero boot time, just open the LCD screen and shot.
Playback: I have samsung 51 inch plasma. So I connect camera to tv with HDMI cable and tv identify the camera as "Anynet+" device. Then the camera can be access with tv remote and video can be played back.
My plasma is also full HD, so the image quality is superb. The color is better then real.
Transfer: It is very easy to transfer videos to computer with supplied software PMB (on dvd). Camera has built in USB cable so with few steps the videos can be transferred.
Camera also have built in Portable PMB software, so videos can be easily transfer to new computer without installing full PMB software which comes in DVD. For example I shot birthday party of my friend. I transferred videos in friend's computer instantly at the end of party without any software.
Editing: PMB is not good for editing. I use Window Live movie maker for editing.
Creating DVD: It is very easy to create AVCHD disc, DVD with PMB software. It can also create blu ray disc, but I do not have drive to write blu ray disc so I have not experienced it.
Youtube: If you have shot in 50i(Interlaced) then you need to convert it to 50p(Progressive), to properly played back in Youtube. This can be easily done by Window Live Movie Maker(Save movie > Recommended for this project).
Mic in: The only negative thing about this camera is the absence of "Mic In" Jack. So you can not record sound from microphone.
Mic Zoom: Lack of "Mic In" jack has been compensated with this feature. It has very good Mic zoom. Means if you focus and zoom to an object, then camera mic will cut surround notice and try to record sound from object on which it has been zoomed.
Steady Shot: It has wonderful steady shot. So actually you can shot steadily while walking.
Intelligent Auto Mode: It's wonderful function. The auto mode will detect the shooting condition automatically and change it's setting. It is almost perfect for any condition like'Backlight', 'Micro', 'Low light' etc.
Smile detect: While shooting it will detect smile and capture photos. So you are shooting video and the camera take pictures automatically without your effort.
So In short I would recommend to purchase this Handycam.
