I have always been a SONY fan.that is the reason why I have a Sony TV at home, a SONY hi-fi stereo system(which gives me trouble ever since I played ONE measly 65-buck DVD on it!), a SONY system in my car(the car got damaged - check out my review on the WagonR!) and so.I decided to go for a SONY phone.! And that is how I saw the w580i and instantly fell in love with it.
I still am in love with it.but the sad part is that most often it is not with me.and perhaps that is why I love it all the more, as they say'Distance makes the heart grow fonder!' Actually, to cut a long story short.I bought my Sony w580i in September 2007. And since then I have had it with me only for about 4-5 months in all at the most! From the beginning itself, it started giving me trouble.and it has been with the Service Centre most of the rest of the time!
It all started with a fall that my poor phone had when it was less than a week old. It was on vibrator and the damn thing rang and fell from my shelf. And after that.
1) it would switch off whenever I put to charge. Took it back to the dealer who told me I could not get a replacement, but he would get it repaired. Came back to me.trouble still continued. Returned it several times, and even till the end, 9 times out of 10 it would charge, but occasionally it would just shut down! each trip to the service centre took about a month to come back to me!
2) then one fine day, the display just gave up on me! lines started appearing randomly across it.and.back to the dealer.and the service centre.and it came back to me after about 2 months! New display!
3) then it would show me no network and would not recognise SIM card.nearly went for a new SIM card.but when I checked mine out in another phone.it worked! So.back to dealer.back to service centre.2 more months(was it more?!?).came back.took it home.problem not sorted.back to dealer.back to service centre.2 more months.! It worked!
4) phone would seem to get warm during calls.did not complain as I could not afford to send it away to'maika' yet again! sound also was not clear.did not even mention it!
5) then one day, the slider got jammed! refused to open. back to dealer, .back to service centre.1 month or so.when it came back.new set of keys but they were all bulging out in an awkward kind of way.all wobbly wobbly kind. returned it there and then.back to dealer.back to service centre.and a month and a half since then, I am still waiting for it to come back to me!
I hear you wondering why I dont just chuck it up and go for another one.! Am a sentimental sort.and am quite attached to the phone. it is definitely a cute one.though it seems to have more than its share of faults. And again, I hear you saying it must be because of that fall.but then again, a friend of mine bought the same phone after seeing mine.and he regrets it.some of teh same problems.and he has thrown it out. Another friend bought it.display problem and some other problem, he returned it and got his money back. A cousin bought it, keys broken right down the centre and also seems to have some other problems! A student of mine bought it.some problems with it too.and dumped it.! But.it is a cute looking phone!:)
