Its a long time since I put finger to keyboard.
I just bought my new 580i about 3 weeks back. Earlier I had a K750i and its done its job fantastically. Its still alive but the LCD has a quite a few scratches on it and the firmware has taken a beating due to the few hundred falls the phone has had over nearly 2 years. So I kept watching every ad in the newspapers for a good deal.
So finally I bought it at Global Access, Cambridge Road , Bangalore for 10300/-
In addition I bought the mini speakers too to go wwith it for about 650/-. Also I have an exchange price of 2500/ for my old cell which Im NOT giving back. Its camera and memory are in very good condition.
Now coming to this phone
Audio - We need nmot say much on the matter cos its Sony. The audio is excellent for a phone of this type and I can confidently put it down to one thing - competion has not evolved to take on a Sony till date!!!!!
The Nokia N73 wihich was a condideration before purchase is good 2000/ plus costlier nad no match for the Sony in terms of graphics or audio.
Video - Excellent video output. I converted a regular divx movie - Taare Zameen Par to 3gp format nad uploaded it in the phone to view. It came out quite good condering the losses which would happen during conversion (the reduction in bit rate does the damage.)
Walkman function:- One touch walkman key activates the pue audio mode. I played out Jagjit Singh's Ghalib albums - Perfect !!! as good as listening to the regualr CD itself.
Radio:- The radio is good with very good pick up infact I bought the speakers cos my car audio is dead so I use the little speakers for good effect. It comes in its own little carry box.
Psst..... if your smart enough here is what you can try -- make a common audio jack for the car speakers in your car and connect it to the phone voila you have excellent car audio. dont forget to buy that multifunction charger to keep the phone charged !!! Im gonna try it shortly.
Looks and feel:- I bouth the black color version of the phone somehow Sony bklack color clicks all others go to hell.
Size:-The phone is very light and slim is dimension to what it can do
Battery:- I get good life on the battery - I dont switch off the phone at all and about 20 mins of talk time and two hours of Radio and I recharge once in almost 70 hours. More than enough for me.
Camera:- Standard 2 Meg camera gives decent pictures
Other features:- Plug the camera to a PC using the USB cable and the phone throws up two options - File transfer ode and phone mode. In file transfer mode the phone goes offline and if you dial the phone you will hear hte switched off message.
Some more new components like downloads etc are available which are added goodies.
Menu access is standard Sony based on the Central four way dial key. Most functions are simple to access straight off
I recomened the phone straight away compared to the competion.
I have checked its performance for audio and camera against LG and Nokia of simialr class and found them to be below this toy for sheer performance.
So I recomend go ahead upgrade and if you got cash to burn there lots of real high class addons available like a spherical speaker which runs on bluetooth, a bluetooth headset which plays audio and also shows caller ID !!!!!!
Great phone for hte money you pay.
PS :- I just edited the review now cos I just remebered a very few useful feature -
GPS - if you have the GPS device which will connect to the phone.
Email - built in and you can access almost all major webmail sites
Browser - Far better than before and in addition you can use the Opera browser.
NO Infrared connectivity -- but do you really need it consideringte limitations and comapred to Bluetooth.
TrackID for getting details of a particular music track by referring it online
Fitness:- A fitness module to help you train !!!!! Beat that
Themes:- Lovely stuff !!!!
