It shares its walkman 2.0 from w950i, w950 was found world's best walkman phone by all magazines. And of course no other company can snatch this prize from sony in audio quality and sound reception.The sound is lot more clear and equilised than other w phones.
I bought it 10 days ago in pune. I had k750i and w700i earlier. Let me describe its pros below:-
The walkman can run for 30 hours continuously, no matter what equiliser settings u use.
The sound in earphones in awesome, someone wrote that it's better than fg ipod(in w950i section). I do agree with him.I mean sound is fully controlled and precise. Some say nokia N series phones give clear sound. I tell u what, it's not clear but devoid of equilizer and DEPTH. Sony provides awesome sound depth. The hindi songs can be heard with utmost pleasure in this phone.I have stopped listening to pop and rap songs from my computer, as even my onboard sound card is not so clear(though I use computer for rock songs).
The sound level is automatically controlled in w830i and above walkmans only. While hearing linkin park, suppose, when all sound stops only vocals are on then the volume goes up slightly and as soon as guitars and drums are banged, the level goes down in order to avoid ear drum injury. This was not so in w700i and other w phones.
Some stupid(again in w950i section) wrote that its megabass is not at par, compared to w550i. He must be using the larger rubber plugs for earphones. I do use smallest ones, they go deep in the ear tunnel. And megabass in UNBEARABLE if u are hearing it loud in silent environment. It can be only used while DRIVING when due to outside vibrations(not noise, the ear phones jam your ears completely so that I can't even hear my own pulsar's horn!) the bass effect goes down. MEGABASS can be used with oldies like blues and classic songs in which recording is not that intact.
Otherwise I set the equilizer manually and its sufficient for all kind of music like rap, rock, hard rock, punk rock etc.
W550i has only stereo speakers, none other advantage than that.
The power saving facility while walkman is on is incredible. All the power in SE phones is consumed by their ultra bright sreens. So first I keep the brightness level at 50%(its still brighter than nokias). While the W is on, u use volume keys for volume up and down, or to skip tracks, then the screen only glows at 10% and for 3 seconds just to show time. Thus lots of battery is saved while using walkman. Though using games and net browser will consume much battery.
7. Design is too elegant, specially the back is like u have a unique gadget, but doesn't remind u that its a phone! I dont have problem with its keypad, the slide out keys are soft enough. The directional keys are small and u have got to used to it for using.
What about the plug in kind of charger? Now u can use the charger and data cable(or)earphones both at the same time. This is really helpful while travelling.
Screen resolution is too crisp and crystal clear for videos and photos.
the net speed while using edge is really cool! Better than nokia's edge phones.
The 3d games and tennis(from SE usa's website) are really cool. U can play tennis multiplayer with other SE owner with bluetooth.
Its a complete WALKMAN and not just a phone. I checked out Nokia N series and N3250 also, but the sound of sony is a kind of its own.
13. IMPORTANT if u use the screen more than walkman, then I recommend buying spare battery(will cost 400 to 600) according to me.
- You can pause video at any moment and capture the full screen photo.those clear pictures surprise me a lot.
THE TITANIUM COLOURED BACK WHICH COMES OUT AFTER OPENING SLIDE IS JUST EYE CATCHING AND REALLY STYLISH.
I RECOMMEND GETTING SOME MORE MONEY AND BUYING THIS WALKMAN INSTEAD OTHER W8XX ONES.
