After 3 trouble free years I finally said adios to my 3310 (still very much alive) and after a lot of research concluded

W810i is the phone I got to have.

Primary reason ??

Its a Sony (walkman)... :) Why oh why ? simple logic....

  1. Buy ipod 30GB (15k) music quality is not nearly as good

  2. Buy and good mp3 (pen-drive) players, cost nearly 6-8k with display and stuff.

And what about phone??

Music quality is too good... better than any player (ipod included)

Oh....! N91 ?? its as huge as a Brick

I got it on July 25'th for 17,000 and I got an offer 2 small cute portable speakers (Sony Ericsson MPS -60) it costs 1,600, so not bad...!

Sound from the speakers considering the size is phenomenal.

The phone.... yeah the phone....

Its not too flashy mind you... if you want to show-off look elsewhere.

Black, sleek and packed with lot of features....

But... the reaction I got for the phone was sheer amazement.

Everyone loved it looks (some disliked the orange Walkman key)

Still a hit for sure....

Well.... The hard data speaks for itself.

Except for the stubborn battery cover and the STUPID all in one Charger, Data-cable, Handsfree connector ; the rest of the phone is Cool...!

I have no idea what is the point in using a single connector for all these...

Ideally I'd have loved a standard 3.5 mm jack on the phone...

The handsfree has one, to which you can connect any headphone.

And a Nokia type charger please.... R&D@ SonyEricsson listening ?

It feels a bit flimsy sometimes but the good bits still keeps you amused.

Using the phone is a breeze, it has lost the dodgy Joystick like thingy...

and has a more sane 4-way navi key

(The very first phone in which I saw this was Siemens SL45, mp3 and the 32MB mmc)

I still have it... :) and my very first phone Nokia 5110...

Enough with history....

Walkman & Video

The sound... WOW! MegaBass and the earphones.... A dedicated key is there

Ear plugs (pun intended) does feel a bit odd when you first use them, it goes into your ear

(soft rubber plug)

Once its in there the outside world (sounds) fade away...

Apart from the odd feeling at first, its very comfy and the sound is too good BASS...! yeah....

3gp and mp4 support is there, framerate is good...

A full length movie can be around 150MB I'm not sure if the battery will hold on for that long

Display and Features(Cam, FM,....)

The display of the phone is adaptive, ie there is a light sensor which adjusts the screen brightness

its a breeze to view it even in the bright sun.

W810i supports Java and it means that you can download Applications and Games

SMS sending is breeze, it stores recently sent numbers very useful

The interface is simple and the navi key is easy to use, the interface is fast too...

it does not have the sticky feeling of Symbian phones.

GPRS and EDGE offers good speed... choose a diff browser though, I feel Opera is faster...

Camera is of 2 Megapixel with auto-focus and macro mode (for really close-up shots)

The quality of the picture is amazing, main reason being the auto-focus.

Oh yes it has a flash too... yes pictures are possible in total darkness.

The flash (Glorified LED's) can be used as a torch too.

Oh yes no camera cover (W700i which costs less has one)

If you feel bored with the interface you can always download loads of themes cool ones...!

Quality of FM is good. (RDS is there)

Call reception is good, but the built in speaker (normal one) sound feels feeble this feels more so when you are out on a busy street

Loud speaker is there too... that is good, but voice of the caller sounds a bit odd.

Battery

Battery good is fair with heavy cam use and non-stop music it holds for around 2 days

I feel standby time is not that great...

Full charge to complete discharge (phone turs off) -- 70 Hrs

Usage

Mp3 -- 5 Hrs

Calls -- 1 Hr

Video -- 25 Mins

GPRS -- 5 Mins

Fooling around (Games, Java apps, Themes) -- 40 Mins

Conclusion

If you want good music quality, a nice cam and a phone look no further...

Dare to be different...

Stand out from the crowd.....!
