The Sony Ericsson W 810i was launched in April 2006 and was the successor of the immensely popular W 800i.
The black colour scheme is a certain attraction as compared to the horrible colour schemes that one could associate Sony Ericsson handsets with.
Arguably, the W 810i is the best Walkman series phone till date and also the most popular in this part of the world.
Lets find out, what makes this the icon that it is.
1) Walkman
The walkman is too good. I just purchased a Philips SA 3115 MP 4 player but the sound pales in front of the W 810i. The Mega bass is a very innovative feature and the provided headsets cuts off the external sound totally. Rate it at 10/10.
2) Camera
The 2.0 Megapixel camera is decent. The autofocus feature is an add on. The flash works great even at night and the pictures taken at night are good when compared to other mobile cameras.
The picture, when reproduced on the PC doesnot distort.
3) Applications/Downloads
The applications can be downloaded from the Sony ericsson website under the FUN & DOWNLOAD section and they are pretty useful. The world clock was a good idea and so was the MIni Opera. Most applications are free from the site.
Other good sites areĀ https://esato.com and https://mobiles24.com.
4) The Package
The most important part is the package it offers in terms of the commercial aspect. The bundled Sony ericsson speakers are capable of turning your Walkman into a theatre.
The Sony Ericsson PC suite works fine and the sync is easy.
And all this at a very enticing Rs 11, 000/-
5) Battery Life
Our notion is that only Nokia has a good battery life. But, I was amazed when, even after listening to music for about 5 hours and talking for more than an hour, at the end of the day, the phone had 45% charge left. When I woke up, it was 48 % Charge. The best part is that the phone has some mechanism that not only saves the charge but also enhances it by 5%. The auto adjusting sensor also helps save the power.
THE FEW NEGATIVES
1) No Camera Cover
There is no protection for the camera. Its a good idea in a way coz previous handsets like the W 710i and W 800i complained of the flap opening accidentally and draining out the battery.
2) The Auto answer does not work when the Walkman is on
One thing I noticed is that the auto answer does not work when the walkman is playing, you have to manually pick up the call. Its works great on standby.
3) No EDGE.
4) The loudspeaker quality is not very good.
On a whole, this is an outstanding product from the masters of the Walkman brand.
Come to think of it, the cons are actually not cons.
I very certain recommendation.
