Worth it. Review on Sony Ericsson T610

After running around calling up ericsson and their distributor Salora International.I decided to write a nasty email to their singapore office.

This produced results immediately and I was given a hiss free and fault free handset by salora International bangalore last month.

Its a week 21 handset.but to be on the safe side if you are buying a T610 please buy handset only manufactured after week 23 this info can be found on the box.

I do believe that they have released a new firmware called R1L for the phone whcih will improve the processing speed of the handset and also improve the speed of taking pictures and improve quality.

Im perfectly happy with it now and it works like a dream.You can also get a lot of freebies from the Net for the T610 like ring tones, themes, wallpapers and games.

I infact use it now to dial up to the Net using my PDA and HUTCH GPRS internet service.works well and since it has bluetooth functionality You can use any blue tooth enabled ( or Infrared enabled ) computer or PDA to access the Net using any GPRS www service.

Functionality wise and looks wise its better than the Nokia 7250 whcih is also expensive.

But I suggest please dont buy a grey market peice.

First, what you notice when see the phone is a severe design. The handset looks very attractive and elegant; I think it is made in retro style to some extent. Usual and mat plastic (around the screen) and anodized aluminum are harmonically blended with each other. On the one hand, a plastic rim of the screen is very nice, but on the other - it is easily soiled. Unfortunately, grease stains remain on it after using. It’s not very noticeable from afar, but clearly visible when you see it closer.

Phone dimensions are 102х44х19mm and the weight is 95 grams. The phone is handy and very pleasant to touch. There is an illusion of metallic surface. A power on/off key is placed on the top of the phone, what is not typical for the phones from Sony Ericsson. Despite from Nokia phones, this key has only the main function. Sides of the phone are slightly deepened into the phone, therefore volume keys are very comfortable to press in the talking mode. When you press them in standby mode, you can see a current profile, date and time, but not an approximate operating time, which was so pleasant to see in the phones from other manufacturers

An upper key, which is used to control a camera, is also very comfortable. On the contrast, right side key is not very convenient. It is used to browse Wap from standby mode only. Engineers didn’t assign voice memo function to this key

Now some words about the screen. It is known that the phone is equipped with STN 65K display, which has a resolution of 128x60 pixels. The screen occupies the largest part of the phone. It contains up to 6 text lines, 1 line with icons and 2 service lines. A user can adjust contrast of the screen. Extreme values are very different. When the phone is in standby mode, no information is visible on the display. You can switch on a traditional screen saver (clock). In this case power consumption will be increased. A switched off display is merged with a black rim of the screen. When you move a joystick or press a key, the display revives and a picture appears. The picture has a high quality but in our opinion the STN-screen not so good as TFT. One of the arguments for this statement is that the information is not clearly seen in sunny day

Battery is Ok no great shakes as Sony ericsson had said it would be.

Now for the actual story..there is a manufacturing defect with the phone ( this is with the handsets manufactured prior to week 23 of production ) so guys out there if you want to buy please ask for handsets manufactured beyond week 23.There is a hiss and Hum noise in the handset manufactured earlier

Their service is pathetic I have had to make as many as 8 STD calls to delhi from Bangalore to get any action on the replacement of my handset and still nothing has happened.

Sony Ericsson and their dealers have no clue as to what is happening or they just figure that being Indians We'll not make a fuss about it.

I suggest the Nokia or Samsung camera phone.Please avoid Sony ericsson
