The Sony Ericsson P910i, is the perfect gadget for people on the move, or in control. It's feature filled, and works with you, or rather, works for you!

My previous phone, was a game deck. The NGage QD. I was using it in college. But after college, when I started working, it felt out of place...I wanted a smartphone which will help me view excel, doc and PDF files received as attachments via email. I zeroed in on 7710 and the P910i. I cud stretch my budget a bit to include the O2 mini. After viewing the phones, and reading abt the phones, I rejected the Nokia 7710 and O2 Mini, particularly cos they lack a QWERTY keypad. Moreover, the price of the P910i came down to 25K.

Looks:

The P910i has come a long way from the P800, which was already ahead of other phones in its time. The looks have changed, a LOT. The P800 looked like a soap box (no offense meant for P800 users), especially cos of the blue/white combination. The silver and gray color code looks fantastic, if not eye-catching.

Physical features:

The phone has a flip, with a numeric keypad on it. The menu can be accessed by using the jog dial, which is very useful!. The jog dial can be pushed inwards, downwards n upwards.

The phone can be operated in two modes: flip open n flip closed. In flip closed mode, few applications, including basic functions such as messaging, calendar etc. can be accessed. For typing messages, the numeric keypad is used. The keys are wide and easy to type, better than the P900. But the P900 keypad looked better...

Note:If you hardly open the flip, i.e., u r able to do whatever u want on the phone, with the flip closed....You've wasted your money on this gadget...Cos the ride begins, when the flip opens....

When the flip is opened, it reveals a touch-screen 262K colors display, I think it's bigger than the O2 mini (pls correct me if I'm wrong :-) ). All the applications are now accessible. The inner side of the flip contains a full QWERTY keypad. It's very useful while typing emails/messages. Though the keys are very small, it works well i.e. error rate while typing is low. The stylus for the touch screen is present in its slot on top of the phone.

The flip can also be removed, which radically changes the form factor of the phone. The phone becomes very sleek n stylish! For typing, a virtual keypad can be used. The only problem is that u'll have to use the stylus for every operation. Even for dialling!!!!!

The phone comes with a 32MB Memory stick PRO Duo. Higher capacity memory sticks are available in the market. Internal memory in the phone is 60 MB, of which 53 MB will be available.

Software features:

Pre-installed softwares include quickword, quicksheet, quickpoint, PDF+ etc. These can be used to view n edit the respective file types. A CD is provided in the package which contains essential software.

The Music player in the phone sounds great! The effect is wonderful! But I would like to know if there's a installable music player, which has equalizer controls etc.

The camera in the phone is OK, cos for that kind of money, I should atleast get a 1.0 MPixel camera, if not a 2.0 or 3.0. VGA camera, in a smartphone, makes no sense.

Connectivity:

The P910i has bluetooth and Infrared for wireless connectivity. The phone package includes a USB cradle, which is a desktop stand for the phone, and can be used for connecting to a PC via USB, and also for charging the phone's battery.

Battery life:

This is where the phone takes a beating. The battery will last only for abt 1.5-2 days. In fact, it may be lower also!

Now, would I recommend the P910i? I would, but I suggest you check out the P990i. It is totally awesome! It's a 3G phone, has wi-fi, 2.0 Mpixel camera. It'll definitely be much more costlier than the P910i.

Thus, if u're looking for a smartphone, within 20-30k, look no further, go for the P910i.
