Advances Results for P900. Review on Sony Ericsson P800

SonyEricsson has taken the market by storm. The p900 is a class apart. Talk about a smart phone that has everything & the p900 comes to mind.

PRO's:-

Symbian UIQ OS, 65K Touch Screen, Electronic Keypad(unlike the p800), Sleek Looks, Jog Dial, IR, Bluetooth, MMS, GPRS, HSCSD, Tons of software available in the market, MP3 as ring tones, in-built mp3 player, plays wav, i-melody, amr etc. almost all types of sound files, videos... can play DIVX, AVI, MPEG, 3GP files, good camera with many modes.

It has an excellent contacts manager, with photo ID as well. has a music player, Tasks, even has a jotter in which you can type something in your own handwriting, its got control panal for customising...its got themes, its got a file manager (like windows explorer) comes with solitaire & chess built in, you can add a zip manager, world time clock, opera browser, games, photo editing software & also a pop us virtual full screen keyboard.

The keyboard flips open & when in flip closed mode, you can virtually see all the application function. You can even assign shortcut buttong to application. The keyboard lights up very well & has T9 text input with word prompts (which I personally prefer over the nokia phones).

It comes with a 32MB Sony Memory Stick DUO. This is a new memory format by sony, & is half the thickness & half the length of a normal sony memory stick. You will get 3 extra stylus's in the box & a memory stick duo to a normal memory stic adaptor. You will also get a pouch & a hand strap, plus a USB docking station to sync it with your comp.(outlook or lotus) it also comes with the CD rom for the PC Suite & additional ringtones etc. It even comes with a stereo handsfree for talking on a call or listening to MP3's

Its bluetooth is absolutely seamless, connects to my laptop & headset without a problem, never had any bonding problems. I have nokia & sonyericsson pc suites loaded on my laptop at the same time & never had problems connecting. The moment you place the phone on to the cradel, the phone connects within a few seconds & prompts you to backup the phone now or later.

You can install java apps & other sofwtare just by double clicking. You can just drag & drop MP3's by using the very simple to use software thats provided. Phone never hangs & almost never runs out of memory, it even automatically compacts the contats. Its 5 way jog dial is amazing & well integrated into almost all software & one can almost use the whole phone with this jog dial itself.

If you want to upgrade the software to the latest operating upgrade, just dock your phone & go to their website & follow instructions.... no more going to the service centre to this. Receptions is also excellant, never noticed a call drop.catches even in basements.

CON's:-

You cannot use more than a 128MB Duo Stick, though its available. Battery Life is not so good... you need to charge it everyday for sure.

You have to put on delivery report for the sms everytime to send an indivisual sms. This im sure can be fixed in later software upgrades.

You cannot close apps without a 3rd party software, all software you open stays open in the background & eats memory. But ofcourse 3rd party free software takes care of this problem.

You cannot rename indivisual contact fields like you could on the 9210, eg. mobile bombay & mobile delhi. Both will be under MOBILE

Removing the keypad to use the phone as a PDA is not that easy to do as one thinks. It involves using a screwdriver thats provided. But this is not changed opten so its not such a problem. I hope this review will be helpfull to all.

My reccomendation is that if you want a very good allround phone.. this is the way to go. Its got the best of all worlds. & symbian OS is a tried & tested OS, unlike Windows Mobile which is yet in its growing stage.
