I have been a Nokia 8250 user for the past 3 years, and I was thinking of upgrading for some time now. I was looking out for the best overall phone and was getting quite confused with the hundreds of phone models out there in the market.

Then I heard of the Sony Ericsson K750i, and did some research on the net. Within two days I could think of no other phone that I wanted, and straight away went and bought it. The dealer did not have the piece ready with him...I had to wait for 1/2 hour for him to contact another dealer and have the phone delivered at his shop. I think I got a decent deal...the phone cost me Rs 18500/-.

Now about the phone itself.....it is a champion all-rounder and excellent overall phone....it has almost everything that you could ask for in a phone and the best part is that it come in such a sleek and compact design! I used to always think that Nokia phones were the most user friendly....guess Sony Ericsson has overtaken them now....the K750i is extremely user friendly and easy to operate. You can also customise the phone and use shortcuts to access your most used options.

It has a 2mp digital camera, mp3 player, fm radio and all other options that are normally found in high end phones. The camera is excellent for its class...the images are clear and sharp (for its class....dont try to compare it to a high end film or digital slr camera and you will be quite happy with its performance).

The camera is a full fledged digital camera not just an addon camera that you find in many other phones whose manufacturers are not otherwise into digital cameras. I guess Sony which is a regular digital camera manufacturer has provided its digicam technology. The camera has all options that are found in regular digicams....including 4x zoom(digital zoom), burst mode where you can take four photos in about 1 sec, 'frames' which is a big hit with children, panorama mode, white balance, night mode, video recorder etc etc ......

While it is an excellent overall phone, nothing comes absolutely perfect. There are a few minor issues which I can think of...

  • the fm radio cannot be used while the phone is being charged

  • sometimes while increasing/decreasing the volume on the fm/mp3 player you end up pressing the music on/off button on the other side and inadvertantly switch off the fm/mp3 player. This happens because of the way you grip the phone while increasing/decreasing the volume.

  • also the centre toggle stick is not very comfortable to touch because of the sharp circular edge. This switch is very sensitive and very often it can be pressed in the wrong direction.

  • the camera shutter has a very long shutter time lag, so some people may end up shaking/blurring the photos and also end up missing the right expression of the subject being shot.

While there may be some other phones which may compare to the K750i in terms of features, I think as an overall package this is the best phone at the current time in the market, no other phone even comes close to it overall (including the Nokia 6680 or the Samsung SGH D500).

The overall combination of the sleek and compact design, a 2mp camera, mp3 player, fm radio, user friendliness, expandable memory, reasonable cost...all these make it an unbeatable winner. A must buy for anyone who is thinking of an upgrade. Forget all the Nokias and Motorolas...with the K750i Sony Ericsson seems to have come of age!
