I was looking for a mobile phone with excellent camera. Went around all the Malls in Mumbai and the vote(from salesmen to experts) was for K 750i. They could have peddled me a nokia. Its a craze in Mumbai. SE has caught the imagination off college campus(Im a prof by profession). Having read the reviews I feel that I should no longer add to the positives but explain the shortcomings of this phone technically. First I do not find that the phone hangs. If it does please check with your network. The phone constantly scans for the network in auto search mode. It the signals are weak and wavery it will get confused besides battery life also goes down as scanning take up power. Infact I found this phone better than K700i(Which I had till 2 mnths ago) in terms of software speed and stability.
Second the loudspeaker is crisp. this can be inferred from the fact that when I use the loud speaker to play song the breath of the singer is heard(Try it you'll agree). When we use the speakerphone to communicate it is this very clarity that becomes a curse. The signals in India are bad. Coupled with the high background decible that we have in our country we feel that the speakerphone is not up to the mark. SE failed to realise that India requires a different sound system. We love bass and the speaker lack that.
On camera aspect I have compared it with nokia. It s way ahead I bet. I have also downloaded the photos on the computer and I find that there in imperceptible noise(color patches) in photos if clicked in daylight and well lit rooms.
The phone can be updated also. One has to download an update software of 30 MB along with the 87 kb manual from the sony ericsson website. After installing one has to run it with the Internet connected. The software is not user-friendly. Progress of download of updates is not indicated on the progress bar. Also unlike Microsoft there are no messages explaining improvements resulting from download. This is a serious drawback, as one has to check the phone and compare its performance to know the difference. After updating I have found that the speakerphone quality had improved a bit. The rest of the improvement -“god knows”. Overall I would say that its good that we can update the phone but its bad that the software is meant for men(and women) with some computer background.
