Impressed by its stunning looks and impressive feature set I jumped from my previous K508i to K700i. Marketed under the title ''When Phone meets Camera'' this phone has created some 'BUZZ' in the mobile phone market. After using it for 2 months , I am putting up my thoughts on the pros and cons of the phone.
Looks & Ergonomics : Finished with a brushed aluminium effect and weighing 93 grams this phone looks a 'Class Apart' in its category. For people who look at this in a cynical way, I would say it nothing but a 'JAPANESE REMOTE CONTROL'. The charger port is covered by a rubber plug so the phones look is harmonized throughout. But the rubber plug is a nuisance when charging and when you want to put on the headset.
Call Quality : The Reception quality is excellent in the K-series phones comparable to any Nokia out there. The call quality is excellent. A inbuilt speaker phone is present for handsfree speaking and its sound reproduction is very good too.
Battery Life : The battery life is Ok. It lasts for 2 days on moderate usage or 1 day for heavy usage like me.
User Interface : The 1.8'' screen with a 176 x 220 pixel resolution is a joy to look at. Themes can be used to change the color and graphics in each screen.For the creative mind the Sony Ericsson Theme creator is there to play with their creativity. The 9 icon desktop is bubbly and fun to use and is very intuitive with the horizontal tabbed interface. Accessing each functions with shortcut keys makes the learning curve smooth even for new Sony Ericsson users.Animated GIFs,Jpegs,BMP and PNG files can be used for wallpapers.
MultiMedia : Equipped with a media player to play WAV,MP3,AAC,M4A audio and 3GP,MP4 video it can be used a mini multimedia device but the 41 MB memory is a restriction.But we can compress a 5 MB music file 1 MB m4a file and can store 10 songs for a hour of music and have memory left for other stuffs. Videos cant be played full screen but it has been incorporated with K750i. Streaming videos can played with the media player through GPRS. Using the stereo headphones the music is ''Rocking'' and can be used to hear FM Radio.MP3,Midi can be set as ringtones but the SMS tone cant be customized with our own tones.
Messaging : Basic messaging like SMS,MMS with a good built in editor and T9 system is provided. E-Mail client to configure POP3 access is also provided which can be accessed through GPRS.
Camera : Touted as a phone with 'Dual Fronts' the phone looks like a DigiCam from the back.Equipped with a VGA camera and photo light the camera is 'Pretty Good' in daylights where the color reproduction and sharpness in good.Various effect, frames can be overlayed on the photo.It can also take videos limited only by the memory. It is only good for sending MMS. The photo light can be useful as a torchlight.
Connectivity : One of the strong points of Sony Ericsson phones is the connectivity like USB support, IR and Bluetooth, GPRS Class 10 is provided for browsing using WAP 2.0 and there is a modem which can be used to access internet through PC. One fun thing is the Bluetooth Remote control built in called HID profiles, which can be used to control PC/Laptop's desktop and applications like PowerPoint,DVD player,Itunes. One can create new HID profiles using Sony Ericsson Remote Control software for the PC. The contacts,calendar can be synchronized with the PC.
One more advantage is that users can update their firmware online from Sony Ericcson Update Service using a Desktop stand. I bought it for 11,000 with bill and warranty.Now its price is 10 odd, at this price its a good buy for people looking for a Classy mobile with a good feature set.
