The Review...

People like their mobile phones small, and even having 3G doesn’t give the excuse of having a bulky form factor. There are those who would rather skip 3G altogether then have to carry heavy handset. Well the two factors – small and 3g ready do not have to be mutually exclusive.

K600i is about the same size as a standard bar-type mobile phone and only the front camera and video call button betray it as a 3G handset. The front panel of the handset is made of metal and the back removable back battery cover is made of plastic though it is painted to look like the front. The battery cover comes off by unlocking two latches on the left side and lifting the entire back off. This novel cover is an improvement over the more common press and slide ones we are used to, because it is easy to remove and is no less secure. Also on the back is a rotating cover for the camera lens. Opening this cover automatically triggers the camera application where the user can either take 1.3 MP still images or 176 X 144 video clips. The keypad on the K600i, dissapointly, is completely flush, which makes pressing the keys little difficult. Quite a few keys are available aside from keypad, including the video call and shortcut keys on either side of the display. The 176 X 220 TFD screen displays images and menus clearly, though the colors are not as rich as on SE K750i or S700i.

The speakers and microphones on a 3G handset are extremely important as the device will usually be placed a short distance away from the user during a video call. Even though the speakers on the K600i were on the back of the handset there was no problem in hearing the other party in a video call. Keeping a mobile on 3G as well as GSM needs a quite frequent charging within a span of two days. Radio and MP3 function included in the K600i works fine with supplied earphone. One downside of the set is that there is no expandable memory slot, so the user is stuck to the internal memory of 33 MB for all contacts, applications music and images. The camera shots gives decent images, but nowhere near the quality given by K750i; however it has better color and clarity for both indoor and outdoor scenes.

As we know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the K6000i carries this saying to its full extent.

K600i is a decent 3G handset that has a lack of expandable memory as its greatest flaw.

As always comments are always welcome

Till my next
