This is a review after a long hiatius as I was extremely busy at work. Let me add that the new MS does look a lot more user friendly than the earlier version!

I would like to review the sony ericsson K550i today. I have purchased this mobile almost 2 weeks ago now (My old Nokia N72 has been gifted to my sister who does not mind the frequent hanging of the Symbian OS)

First things first. If you are looking to buy a Sony Ericsson Phone, there are three Series you can go with.

K- Series - For a good camera

W-Series - For great music

Z-series -Not sure what this is for??? Maybe someone can help me out with this one!

You can select the series that best suits your needs as per the above specification but believe me, there isnt much difference that a basic user could find, my friend has a W-series mobile and the clarity of the 2 MP camera is as good as the K -series, similarly, the K-series music is as good as the W-series mobile, you might want to purchase a K-series phone instead of the W-series which are more costlier than the K-series for some reason.

Coming to the Pros and Cons now.

First the Pros:

1) Phone is java based, so no hanging anymore!! (Freedom from Symbiosis!!)

2) Great outdoor camera

3) Great music player, radio

4) Decent headphones

5) Bluetooth, Ir and USB cable options

6) Decent web browser

7) Stylish and Contemporary looks

8) Drag and drop feature between your phone and computer - Makes the Phone like a flash drive!

Now to the cons:

1) Battery life!! Extremely low, especially if you listen to music continuously, you may have to charge the phone once every day! Expected with most Multimedia handsets anyhow!

2) Built in speaker - Mono speaker, real bad to say the least, even worse when you need to talk to someone in public even on the highest volume, you can hardly hear the other person (Thank goodness for the handsfree kit!)

3) Keypad - What were sony thinking when they made this keypad? It feels very hard to touch and is an SMS lovers nightmare! The keys are laid out well apart though, so it helps in situations where you have big pudgy fingers (read fat)!!

4) Indoor camera sucks - Even with the flash and the bright strobe that is provided with the camera, you get very grainy pics at night, also no zoom option at the 1 and 2 MP settings is a big letdown by sony.

5) Memory card cost - Costs Rs.750 for a 512MB card

As you can see from my review above, the pros outnumber the cons by almost 50%

Target Audience would be Mid-range buyers who want a phone which can provide you with the features of a higher value phone at a budget price. The handset costed me Rs.7400 bucks and I would say, is worth every penny I spent for it!

Definitely recommend this phone!

Until next time folks!

Cheers!!
