Sony At Its Best!!!. Review on Sony DCR-SR300E

I was looking for a Camcorder with a good Digital Still Camera function too and finally decided on the SONY DCR-SR300E for the following reasons:

1.       40 GB Hard Disk Drive – thus, eliminating the hassles of carrying tapes or DVDs.

2.       6.1 Mega Pixels Still Camera

3.       Powerful Flash light with 3 adjustable levels(High/Normal/Low)

4.       10x Optical Zoom

5.       Super Steady Shot

6.       Hard Disk Drive Smart Protection

7.       Dolby Digital 5.1 Recording

Extremely easy to use with all controls at your fingertips as it comes with a 2.7 inches wide touch panel LCD. The 40 GB Hard Disk is supposed to give 28 hours of recording time in LP Mode, which I believe surpasses my requirement of recording time for a holiday. The Still Images are superb thanks to the 6.1 Mega Pixels Still Camera and Images can be recorded on both the Hard Disk Drive and the Memory Card. Super Steady Shot stabilizes shakes and vibrations and I have tried this feature while shooting video and it does really work. Good low light performance. The Hard Disk Drive Smart Protection is supposed to protect your Hard Disk Drive incase of a drop, however, I hope I do not drop the camera.

The Camcorder comes with a Handycam Station – simply place the camcorder on the Handycam Station and you can quickly connect to a TV for viewing or a PC for editing and sharing. The Handycam Station has a DC In slot – so one can charge the battery too while the Camcorder is connected to the Handycam Station, however, the Camcorder also has a DC In Slot.

Easy to connect to PC for transfer or burning to DVD.

There is no View Finder but I really do not miss it.

The Standard Battery provided with the Unit is a Sony NP-FH60 this provides you a recording time of approximately two hours. However, I have got myself another battery too i.e. Sony NP-FH100 which provides a recording time of six to seven hours, this additional battery is bigger by approximately 2.20 cms. and heavier by 100 grams compared to the standard battery but this does not bother me as it is worthwhile having an additional battery.

Anyone looking for a complete solution of a Handycam with an excellent Digital Still Camera, I believe this is an ideal solution.

I tried a whole lot of Compatible Sony Carry Cases and my suggestions are as follows:

SONY LCS-VA30(seems rugged and most suited as enough pockets to store the extra battery, Handycam station, cables etc.)

SONY LCS-VA5(Carry case itself is Too Heavy)

SONY LCS-VA40(no extra pockets)

SONY LCS-VA10(seems fine if you are carrying only the camera without any of the accessories)SONY LCS-VA9(only for camera storage/carry with standard battery)

SONY LCS-SRA(Camcorder cannot be stored with NP-FH100 accessory battery attached)
