Ajay Devgan never had a huge fan following which the Khan's can always boast off. But yes During the onset of Mahesh Bhatt's Zakhm, he was discovered as a serious actor. Then Rajkumar Santoshi came up with The legend of Bhagat Singh and Khakee both of which made Ajay Devgan one of the most versatile actors of all times.Prakash Jha nurtured him into one of the most intense actors in Indian cinema.
Then Rohit Shetty stroked gold and Ajay Devgan became the most bankable star in the film industry and had a strong foothold in comedy.
But you don't overdo anything. If SOS would have waited for 3 more days for its release, it could have saved its fate which is turning out to be a disaster because of being compared with JTHJ.
And there's something with this Ajay Devgan-Sanjay Dutt pair which to me seems unlucky. From the forgotten MOHABBAT, to the Super dud Rascals, this pair despite of it's potential is not able to yield results.
SOS is boring. The lead characters overtly repetitive. The saving grace are only the side actors, and each one of them be it Mukul Dev, Vindoo Dara Singh or Juhi Chawla, have done a splendid Job.
Sonakshi Sinha too has not been up to the mark.
the music by HR is average. The camera work and cinematography are okay okay.
Editing is pathetic. Background score is good. Action sequences are too loud and over the top.
Ashwini Dheer, a small time soap director in SAB TV thought of remaking a telugu superhit (Maryada Ramanam) into a big budget Action-Comedy movie but failed miserably.
Take some Santa-banta jokes, mix some Anu Malik style irritating two liners (Shayari) add some songs, few action scenes and what you get is SOS.
Guys avoid it.
